Where does it bolt into?

Could you also suggest some points for attaching a chain if I don't use the TPIS part? I'm pulling an LT1 for the first time, and I'm not sure what some sturdy attachment areas would be.

Thanks,
bz7

Happy Hoooker

It's a metal plate about 6" by 10" (approx) and bolts onto your air intake.

I have one but haven't used it yet. Since it bolts onto your intake (which is aluminum) it's still up in the air as to whether it's safe or not. Motors are heavy and I, like many others, are worried about stripping the intake bolts...

What do you guys think of just putting some eye bolts into the block and then feeding a chain through it?

Where do people usually attach chain to hoist an LT1 up?

Hard to do without a lift and a very large shop.

I'm actually pulling the LT1 out of a wrecked Firebird. I have all of the accessories and wiring removed. I also removed all body frame in front of the engine with a sawzall. Removing it from the top should be the easiest, I just don't know how/where to attache the hoist without damaging anything. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
bz-7

Dealer do that, when whats his face with the blue 95 got his 355 and blower they unbolted the entire subfarme from the car. Like some one said, you got to have a big shop for that. Most junk yards already have the motors out of the cars.

You do not have to have a big shop and a lift to take the whole k-member out with engine and trans still attatched. The first time i took the engine out we droped it in my garge. Took a while to get the car high enought, but we made it. It sure is not a light thing to try and pull out fron under there once it is down though. I think that it is easier to take it out of the top though. But everyone has there own prefrence.

Unless you have the proper lifts, tools, and area. Dropping the K-frame is very dangerous. The happy hooker is safe and easy to use. You can check it out on tpis.com.

It is very easy to pull the motor from the top of the car. Some guys take off the front of the car(the nose), some don't. I don't, I just take out the radiator, pull the wp, pull the intake, yada, yada....

I pulled my motor 2 weeks ago. Started at 12:00 noon, buy 3:00, it was on the floor. Just me, my brother and my dad.

Just like pulling any other motor it you take the hood off you should not have to pull the heads. Unbolt tranny take off all harnesses and WP,ALT,RAD,FAN,COND,EXH. The alt and back of the head are good hook spots. Then the motor mount bolts and your done. That should take 5hrs max.

So you don't really need to drill any holes to get the engine out then? I heard that you have to take off the entire suspension to get these motors out.
