I say go with the 108 and some 4.56 gears!

If you the lsa remains fixed but you increase duration you will also increase overlap periods.

I personally couldn't see myself going with a 108 lsa for these engines on the street. If all you want is one nasty idle it'll work great but as far as power vs. bad street manners go it's probably not worth it.... IMHO.
thanks.... so whats your opinion on the 236/242 on a lsa for a daily driven street car. i cant stress enough that i want some lope never mind alot of lope.

i dont mind it, it gets annoying after a while though
and it can rev to the moon with some good heads (68-6900rpms)
I suggest the 230/236 on 110

well the 230/236 i think is good but my buddy has it on stock heads and it runs strong, but sence im going with ported heads and longtubes. so honestly i think i want to go allitle bigger them him. you know its a ego thing i guess.

thanks for all the info guys helps out alot. i think it will be the 230/236 on a 110 lsa or a custom grind just a little bigger.

A narrower LSA with any given duration/lift will make your power curve more narrow, or "peaky". Someone correct me if I'm wrong please (as I want to be sure this is correct). The XE lobes have steeper ramps than standard non-XE profiles, so your getting lift faster/longer than non-XE grinds which produce a broader power curve. So you may be able to get away with a 108 and still have tolerable street manners. rskrause is the man you need to talk to about cams.

The XE cams already "act" fairly large. Because the ramps are more extreme they tend to be more sensitive to changes in LSA when it starts getting tight. If you compare .006" to .050" lift specs between XE grinds and standard cams you could get a better visual. The relationship of lsa to overlap is not linear and it progresses faster with the XE cams. One of the benefits of the XE grinds is getting maximum, effective, area under the curve while minimizing overlap. XE cams also have a habit of hitting the proverbial "brick wall" not long after their peak power, narrowing the lsa will make this worse. Although if you're trying to run a 236/242 on a stock headed 350 this might be a good thing for racing, as you'd get more airflow through the restrictive heads at a more reasonable RPM. An XE 236/242, on a stock headed 350, with a 108lsa would definately be more than I'd want to handle on a regular basis though... it would be downright nasty IMO.

I'm just thinking out loud and I'm no RSKRAUSE. If I'm smoking the crack pipe, someone smack me

236/242 on a 108 is more than i want to, but i want something near a 236/242 on a 110 or 112.

maybe a custom grind is the way i should go.

Just go with one of the XE custom grinds. They are the same price as anyother XE cam... Go with 230/240 on a 110 LSA.

how would that cam act and where would it make it power.

i think 230/236 on 110 if your going NA
or
236/242 with some naaaaaaws on occasion

dont bother messing around unless a pro is matching it to your heads

Well it seems to me that you're stuck between shoosing the 230/236 and 236/242... That cam would be a happe medium of the two, kinda.

your just taking the intake one and the exhaust off the other. now a 234/239 would be about the middle.

a 230/240 would be like a blower cam

thats my concern. maybe match the lift to the heads with the lift and a large duration cam.

say my heads flowed best at .550 then get the 236 242 with the lift of .550. that way the heads dont get turbulent but still move alot of air just smoother.

maybe im shooting in the dark. but does that make any sence
