stronger

Ok I know this is opinion, so If you are going to mod the car and do lets say n20 and a cam or just all motor, you can beat the hell out of an lt1 compared to an ls1... the block is stronger, and aluminum does not like n20 at all it causes expansion. For stock and basic bolt ons you would have a fatser car with bolt ons on an ls1. But I would get an ss they are collectors editions. I was going to buy an ls1 anniv 2000 but was sold so i bought my red 97ws6 with 30,000 miles on it and today IT STILL RUNS REAL GOOD... I have all the bolt ons you can put except rr on my lt1 and thats the best you will get out of one if you take care of it....

97 will be cheaper. the only ls1 id get would be a late 01 or 02. the early ones burn oil, the 98s are difficult to tune (from what i hear). if you want a solid motor that has a sweet sound and no piston slap get a 97 lt1. get some gears, cam, heads, exhaust, tune with the money left over.

is this fast enough for you? http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...hreadid=202123

HP means diddly squat if you cant hook up.

and heres some dyno numbers with a bigger cam:

a typical cam swap with full exhaust work should net you close to 350rwhp

heads can be had for about 1200 from llyod elliot i think.

I've had both (see below). I am selling the LS1 and looking for either a 97 SS or a 96 WS-6 (I just prefer the look of these cars better than the LS1). The LT1's low end torque is unbeatable. Slap a cam and exhaust in it and you'll be more than happy !

No one mentioned this but another thing to take into consideration is that the LT1 is easier to Stroke if you want to. My machinist told me that a lot of people weren't stroking the LS1's because of the thin cylinder sleeves. He said that they were cracking.

I personally like the look of the LT1's better. The front of the LS1's look like ricer headlights. The LT1 sounds better too. I was gonna trade mine in and buy a 02 ls1 but decided against it. I had my car since new and I love it.

the 97 ss is the cream. i dont really care for the old interior compared to the newer stuff, and there are A LOT LESS of them on the road. i see newer SS's daily, i see maybe one 96-7 a month. The lt1 is bad ***, and dont let anyone tell you the ls1 walks all over it.

I'd get the LS1. It's faster out the box.

Thumbs up

I have a 97 Z with 6 speed and every bolt on I could put. Its taken all that and I still can't beat stock LS1's on dyno's but on the track, stock ones are mine. I really feel after driving them both that the LT1 is more responsive/torquey, but yes, the LS1 is faster "out the box". I've spent over 2000 on bolt ons to beat stock LS1's but I'm with the rest of these guys;it's still cheaper than an LS1, neater looking under hood IMO, and I like the tiny square headlights and scooped hood 10x's better than the newer front. But, hey, you have to love what you have, right?

Hey that's my car!

Anywho... IMO both cars have equal potential.. I hang out with plenty of LS1 and LT1 owners. Around here it seems most LT1 owners are younger people who don't really know much about them and are surprised as to how fast you can get them going. I had a couple of guys come up to me asking me how the hell I was running the times I was putting down with the mods I have. I explained and found that too many people waste their money on crap like throttle bodies, hypertechs, mafs, and other stuff that might give you 1 hp....

Technology to go fast is much cheaper in a LT1 and they are pretty much more affordable than a LS1. Its all Preference but I would go with the LT1.

IMO, go find a 95 model if you like modding. Rocker arms alone for a LS1 are like $700. What's that all about? If you are just looking at minor bolt-ons then an LS1.

sure it is, the LS1 has more regardless of how it feels..the LT1 torque curve is just much smaller..to answer the question, LS1 all the way, way better engine in every aspect..So much easier to go 12's/11's in, and in stock form you wont have to worry about a srt or wrx giving u any problems...look at some of these Lt1 sigs here they have a book of mods and still arent in or near the 12's, then you'll see a LS1 w/ a lid and a catback trapping at 110 and there..
