LS1 Rockers in a LT1?

Will stock 1.6 LS1 rockers work on the LT1 heads? Will they clear the valve covers?

Thomas.

I'm almost certain they wouldn't, the LS1 uses a totally different head and I've never heard of anyone using LS1 roller rockers on an LT1. If they did I'm sure a lot of people would. With all the LS1 guys upgrading to better rr's there are probably a lot of stock ones around.

I dont think so either. Gregg 97Z is right, LS1 rockers on an LT1 is unheard of. Stock ratio for LS1 is actually 1.7. If it was possible, i'd think that everyone stepping up to 1.7s would buy used LS1s as compared to brand new rockers from an aftermarket company.

Not necessarily. With the proper knowledge, it can be done. For a straight bolt-on, no. If you want to get a little more custom, well then.... A local guy has swapped stock LS1 rockers (1.7:1) onto his TPI car. I'll see if I can find more in depth info, but here's what was posted on my board:

Brought to you first by Team Rigged & Jimmied

I'm putting LS1 valves and gear into some old-school iron 305 heads that have been extensively ported.
The reasons for doing this is because LS1 gear is VERY lightweight, flows much better than stock oldschool valves, is cheap, and LS1 steel roller rockers are very light over the valve and come in 1.7 ratio for much more lift.
First I got .5 OD 8mm ID valveguides installed in the heads so the fit the skinny LS1 valves. The spring pockets have to be cut a little bit lower to give a 1.8" installed height with Comp 918 springs and allow .600"+ lift without binding.
Then I drilled out the 8mm ID of the LS1 roller rockers to 3/8" so they fit nicely on oldschool screw-in studs.
The last step will be to determine the proper pushrod length during final engine assembly & that will be a little different on every engine.

Results using Stock LS1 valves, Comp 918 springs & titanium retainers & stock LS1 keepers.
Valve + retainer weight:
2.00" Intake is 39 grams lighter than stock 305 gear
1.55" Exhaust is 60 grams lighter than stock 305 gear

I'll see if I can find more info from him. There's also some info posted on thirdgen.org

Seems like a waste of time trying to convert LS1 rockers for an LT1.

For about $200 you can get a set of 1.7 roller rockers that will fit in the stock LT1 valve covers - do a search in this forum for 1.7 rockers...

I think Scorpion is the name.

That seems like a waste of time to buy ls-1 rockers and put all that work into them when you can just buy regular SBC rockers and not have to spend any time on them for around $200 new.

Why buy new ones? Just get some LS1 takeoffs. You should be able to get them pretty cheap.

I'll see what I can find out.

IMO the 200 is not bad for a direct bolt on (with the right spring), that doesnt have to be hacked...

I would like to hear the exact modifications need to make the ls1 rockers work on an LT1 though...
