LS1 lid conversion

Anyone make a kit for this or do you have to just find an air lid from an LS1 and make it fit?

Any cutting on any sheet metal to make it work?

you have to make the ls1 stuff fit, and cut the rad. support

I have yet to see one that was not a hack job

It would be nice if someone did a before/after dyno with this, I still haven't seen any proof this helps at all.

Look around in the LT1/LT4 section of LS1tech. I have seen two conversions, one under a stock hood, he cut the core support and set it down in the hole, the other had a LS1 conversion in a LT1 car, a Harwood b12201 hood, had the lower box and the whole deal off an LS1 car with the radiator laid way back. One of them did a dyno.

T/A kid, What kind of hood do you have? And where did you get the hose from the throttlebody to the mass air meter?

Yeah and he was down on power everywhere except where he fixed the valve float issue or w/e that was that was going on up there.

One of them, the guy that cut a hole in his hood, claimed to have picked up some E.T.

Trying to get some more power out of that thing??

I am putting another Ls1 lid conversion on the guys heads i just shipped you.

What hood are you running , that will make a difference on the cutting / non-cutting factor.. Did you ever see Joseph's T/A Le1.5 with the ls1 lid?? He had a VFN 4" hood , we didn't have to cut at all. Just bolt on a ls1 upper rad support with lid and air box.. Most other hoods wont clear without cutting the frame support btwn the fenders.

Joseph's T/A with 4" hood

Joe's ls1 lid conversion by Alley Speed 415rwhp/383rwtq (unported intake)

Random pic like Joe's setup

My car next to Joe's comparing hoods

My ls1 lid conversion by Alley Speed( had to cut frame) 417rwhp/394rwtq(unported intake)

Zach's ls1 lid converions by ASM ( had to cut frame as well, but fits under STOCK t/a hood)403rwhp/376rwtq-cc306 cam not LE(unported intake)

Not sure if you will see any dyno numbers out of this, there is not much "ram air" effect going on in most dyno rooms. On the street 1-2 cars, 1-2mph at the track.. I am putting a slp 85 maf on that 383 Le2, setup as well. Ed W. did some testing and found 5rwhp, with A-B-A testing on that mod alone. Figure ls1 lid and 85 maf, should pull harder on the top end with less atmospheric pressure drop. Less turns, less drop.
I wanted to drag strip test a CAI/58mm to a ls1 lid /85maf/ AS&M. but haven't had my car running to do it. maybe a small gain on a big motor.

ls1 lid-120
k&n -60
aif filter tray- 25
ls1 clips (to hold a/f to tray) 10
smooth bellow - 7

Getting every LE setup you build to run in the 400+ club ,, Priceless

Thanks Lloyd, glad to give a little back to the man that helped me go fast.

email me for more pics of the cutting involved

I'll be in town sometime this Spring because I hear you guys are re-opening the track! I want to go see what I can do since I've never been there. I also want to get on a dyno and see some numbers. Damn Clovis has nothing.
