LS1 Brake Upgrade. Please tell me what I need & need to know..
My friend just gave me his front calipers off his 99 Firehawk. He upgraded to the Wilwood. Anyway what info & what parts do I need to make this swap?
I know I need rotors & pads but what about brackets & other like components.
I did a search but for some reason It won't show me anything about anything at this time.
Thanks in advance.

you need the following from a 98 or later F Body (V6,V8 doesnt matter)
Lt and Rt spindles with caliper mount brackets
calipers
rotors
brake lines
btw...LS1 factory rotors are prone to cracking..consider upgrading..
also consider upgrading to braided brake lines, and DEFINTELY flush the braking system completely.

Yep, you need spindles/knuckles and all.... the calipers alone are useless except as replacement units.
FYI, despite the rhetoric of the various salvage places, all 1998-2002 Camaros and Firebirds regardless of engine have the same brakes, so you can get the spindles off any 98+......
The bad news is that most salvage yards will want to sell the entire assembly.
Good news again, they usually only want about $150-225 for everything.
Keep in mind, as mentioned, that you really will probably end up replacing the rotors with improved aftermarket ones (Powerslots are good, heck, even the J.C. Whitney drilled/slotted cheapos have to be better than the stock junk). At this point you'd also want new pads.
Fun fun! This is one of the upgrades I have planned also...

Yes, unless you count the hub.
Also did you get the bolt for the banjo fitting from the LS1 car? From what I've read the old one from our cars won't work.
Also need new copper washers to put it back together.
Got all the brake kit setting here just waiting, now I need to get off my *** and order some poly bushings so I can do it all at once

One more thing. Is a hundred bucks for the left & right spindles a good price for both? There is a salvage yard in the are that has them in stock off a '99.
Thanks again.

There are some good pictures in those links.
The end of the hose that bolts to the caliper. You need new washers (4 total) and bolts from the newer style brakes.
Look in the links above. A bracket bolts to the spindle and the caliper bolts to the bracket.
Price seems ok. the whole kit goes for $200-250

What is the banjo fitting?
Do The spindles/knuckle have the mounting ears for the calipers also?

Thanks 96LTZ & everyone else. Those links did me good.
Looks like all I need to do the job is the spindle/knuckles & pads & rotors. I have the calipers & caliper brackets along with stailnless brake lines still bolted to the calipers..
Might big thanks again. Know I just have to figure out how to get my wife to lend be the $$$$$ for the spindles.

Been there, done that. Try to get the freshest parts you can. The hubs on the spindles I got were bad. The good news is that they interchange with the earlier hubs, so you can take the ones off your old spindles.
You'll be amazed how much lighter the 2 piston calipers are compared to the older style cast iron LT1 calipers. Much better design and they can be polished up to look very nice.
