ls1 in a 93-97 f body

Does anyone out there have a ls1 in there 93-97 fbody. If so was it worth the extra money. Found a used ls1 for about 2k, to rebuild my lt1 with 117k miles or by a short block lt1 will cost about the same, i know the ls1 will need new k member, cross an cpu etc is it worth it?

At 117K your LT1 does not need a rebuild unless something specifically broke. These are not old carb motors with **** poor machining and a carb dumping raw fuel into the cylinders and wearing them out fast. It is routine for people to pull the heads off of LT1s with over 100K and find the original crosshatch pattern for seating the rings still intact. I checked the cranking compression in one of my LT1s at 175K now this was a b-body so the static compression is a tad lower than your and the cam is a little smaller but with similar overlap so I don't know how that will affect the number but I got 195-200psi. Now by oldschool carbed standards that is too high for 93 octane pump gas but this thing likes 87 octane. That is a high cranking compression number by any standards these things don't wear that much. If you are concewrned about your motor put some new bearings in it but even that is likely overkill at this milage.

I agree with 96 caprice. I did head gaskets on my LT1 with 156k on it and the cylinder looked great, stiching was clearly visable in all of the cylinders. But due to a faulty rocker that shed some aluminum into my motor it spun a bearing. I would have like to see how far it would have gone. As long as something isnt broke dont worry. But that is a good deal on the LS1.

after all said and done I think a 383 LT1 build would be cheaper
