Today I was excited to see I received the Lingenfelter Super Tube Cold Air Intake I recently ordered. I opened the box to find all the parts in good condition, stickers, warnings, CARB information, but no installation instructions. I can identify all but one of the parts, velcro strips, and I am 97% sure I can install it.
* Has anyone installed the LPE CAI on a 94-97 Z28?
* If so, can you answer some Q's?
* I am not sure how to remove the wiring harness clamp from the airbox area.
* I don't know what the velcro strips are for?
* Do I need to seal the plastic airbox plate to the airbox?
* Is there a seal between the K&N filter and the plastic airbox plate?
I don't want to install it incorrectly. Any information will be appreciated. BTW, I did email LPE for the installation instructions but I am not betting on anything other than the great knowledge base at camaroz28.com.

 

1. I did not have to remove any wiring harness clamp. I did have to trim the block off plate to get a good fit.
2. Maybe the velcro is for mounting the headlight cover control on Firebirds?
3. I put 2 screws through the block off plate into the sheetmetal to hold things in place.
4. No seal.

 

i have the same CAI you have. velcro is for the headlight controler for TAs and firebirds. you will need to reuse some parts from the factory setup (hose clamps and rubber fittings that the clamps are one). right now my friend has the CAI on his 94Z. Same setup...if you get a chance to call LPE on saturday ask for Jeff. He can help yah with about anything.

 

Yesterday I tried to install the LPE CAI and discovered it just don't fit. I could install everything though I could not close the hood without concern. I finally unbolted the lower box and removed the K&N filter. I installed everything less the filter and I could close the hood though it is still tight. The larger end of the plastic was much lower than the factory plate of the car. To make the plastic SuperTube fit under the hood with the filter I would have to put the K&N filter in the lower box and shove the larger opening of the plastic tube through the open of the filter past the rubber into the filter. I am afraid the preseure it would take to do this might collapse the filter. Also the plastic plate LPE furnishes is a joke. One of the predrilled holes lines up on the seam of the box frame. I am seriouslt consodering installing the K&N CAI. Any thoughts? Any thoughts, no matter what, will be appreciated. I should have known this was going to be a problem when the LPR CAI arrived without the installation instructions adn LPE does not have them online. They had to fax me a copy of the instructions and they arrived with poor quality. Can you sense a high level of stress

 

Just a followup to my discontent with the LPE Super Tube. Well everything eventually worked. I called and talked with a LPE technician and he was sort of helpful. To make a long story short, I had to trim teh filter end of the tube about 1/4". Actaually I cut the bead off. It fits tight but it fits and the best thing it really made a difference. Money well spent and yes I would purchase another LPE Super Tube. I feel they give you more than the other as far as the possibility of peak performance.

 

Hey Tomatocity and Bud M...just noticed you guys were also in Sacramento, thats cool. Anyone ever meet up or do anything?

and tomatocity, I was looking at getting the LPE cai or the SLP model, I was leaning towards the LPE. So I will have to cut or modify the filter to get it to fit? And how does the filter itself fit through that opening below the stock intake area?

pm me and we can make meet somewhere and I will show you how it fits. If the tube had been trimmed I could have installed it in less than an hour. I used a hack saw to trim the tube. The filter fits very good. Seven bolts out, filter in, seven bolts in, and the filter is installed.

Nope, never have met but that would be cool.
The filter does not fit throught the hole, it goes in from underneath. I made an access plate from aluminum so I can service the filter without taking the splash panel off.

i had mine installed in a bout 20 min with no cutting and no fittment problems

 

Yes I am very happy with the LPE CAI and no it has not been in an accident. I had to cut the bead off of the tube. When I talked with the LPE tech he suggested trimming the tube and made it sound as though it was not uncommon.
I am interested in your SLP fan switch installation. Do you have any pics and/or any suggestions? I am trying to find a good looking location for the switch. I have a convertible and most of the good locations are already used. Any suggestions?
