low trac light on dash
If you drive in the snow or rain and try stopping the light will come on if you slide. If will come on when you first start the car and go out. Doing a burnout will not cause the light to come on. Its a warning that the road conditions are dangerous and to be careful.
From a 1996 manual.....Low Traction Light.
"When your anti-lock system is adjusting brake pressure to help avoid a braking skid, this light will come on.
If you have the ASR system this light will also come on when the system is limiting wheel spin. Slippery road conditions may exist if the low traction light comes on, so adjust your driving accordingly. The light will stay on for a few seconds after the anti-lock system stops adjusting brake pressure or the ASR system stops limiting wheel spin.
The low traction light also comes on briefly when you turn the ignition key to RUN. If the light doesn't come on, then have it fixed so it will be there to tell you when the anti-lock brake system or ASR system is active."
I don't have ASR and I've seen it come on before....I've even felt the car modulating the brakes. It came on for me when I was at the track a week ago. I did a burn out and abruptly applied the brakes as not to cross the tree beams....I jerked the car pretty bad and it came on....

I've got a '97 Z28 without the ASR but will still get the light when sliding on snow or if I hit bad roads and get one of the wheels airborne. Obviously it indicates if one of your tires has lost traction but I believe it also indicates that the ABS is going to respond differently to compensate (if you use the brakes... which I generally don't in that condition)
I've always found it humorous when driving in the snow/ice and start sliding and the light comes on as if to say:
"Hey didja know you're sliding!?"
"NO S(!(!!!"
