low coolant light coming on???

hi,
i just replaced my radiator this past summer, with a brand oem unit, drove the car all summer,no problems, around about sept. the low coolant light came on for like 5 min's,and went back off, never heated up,i checked the coolant, and it was full,i have all new hoses, could the sender be malfunctioning?or should i just replace it,and go from there?because now everytime i take it out, that light comes on,not long after i start it up,it's sitting in the garage right now with the cover over it,but i would like to get it fixed before this spring rolls around.thanks for your time.

yeah thats very typical. the sensors are crappy. but, make sure you dont just have an air bubble. since it never heated up, you prolly dont, but Id wait till the light is on at the moment of the light being on. then it has to be the sensor if you see it full and the light is on.

What he said... The sensors are crappy. I have 3 or 4 lights that are always on and none of them are right. Low oil, Low coolent, Check engine, ABS. None of them are right. It's been like that for the last year or so.

are you sure the check eng. and abs light are not right? Im a mechanic and those lights done come on for nothing. what codes are you getting? and FYI, the low oil light is the oil switch that is above the oil drain plug. its very easy to change and pretty cheap. Id want that one to be reading correct all the time. we dont have a problem with those like the coolant switches.

Unplug the sensor and the light will turn off. Just make sure that you keep an eye on your temp. guage. Same thing happened to my car and my brothers 97 WS6.

Re: low coolant light coming on???

The sensor isn't that expensive (<$25) and easy to replace (located just below the radiator fill neck). Some people have had luck removing the sensor, cleaning it (can fill up with junk) and reinstalling. You'll need to partially drain the radiator to remove the sensor and be sure to "burp" the air out of the system when topping off the coolant.
