ok my low coolant light came on the other night and the coolant was low. no big deal i just poured some water into the overflow tank and brought it back up to level. now however the low coolant light comes on still. its usually after i have been driving it for a little while, but my coolant is not low. ive checked it both when it was hot and cold and its says its full. so why is it coming on? is there something else its trying to tell me or is my sensor messed up possibly? thanks Trey

 

It's most likely the sensor. Mine went out and i just replaced it. Shoebox has pictures of the location and maybe even a R&R of it on his tech page. A fairly common sensor to go out.

The easiest way to get around it is just to unplug it . IMO, it is pretty uselss warning light anyway...

Hey did you actually open up the radiator cap and check it when its cool? not the resovoir, but the actaul radiator...i had lil dipstick thingy say it was full, and the radiator was liek half empty. Give that a try. If not that, then its your sensor.

 

That's why you have the temp gauge. And that's why you check the coolant every time you get gas, or at least a couple of times a month.

Whether you have a sensor or not.

 

Just unplug the sensor or the light on the dash???

 

no i will not be unplugging any lights any time soon. ill get it fixed.

as far as opening the radiator i didnt think of that, but if i do that then i have to bleed the cooling system right? anyway ill give that a try.

the light came on again after 30 minutes of driving. i checked the level after getting home ten minutes later and the dipstick thingy said it was full. so im thinking it is the sensor. thanks Trey

 

My car did the same thing after changing the coolant out. In my Haynes manual it says after it is full, turn key from OFF to ON to OFF and back again. I did this a few times and it eventually went away. Took a few times of going back and forth but once it worked, the LOW COOLANT light didn't come on with key in the ON position. Worth a try. If it doesn't work, I wouldn't worry about it, as long as you keep a check on the coolant level.

 

mine started doing that a couple months ago. when it first came on, i freaked and filled the **** slap full. still had the idiot light staring at me. since it wasn't overheating, and i knew it wasn't low, i just ignored it. it comes on when it feels like it, but since it isn't overheating, i don't even worry about it anymore. more than likely, it is a malfunctioning sensor as has been mentioned earlier. i've heard of other folks having the same problem. to me, it isn't a big deal so i just let it slide.
