I had this problem years ago. I remember it being a pain and doing the same after I installed a new one. Mine is just unplugged. I don't suggest this unless you are meticulous about keeping an eye on things! Otherwise...

Hell dude, you outa take it out and clean it , that should fix it, I had to do that with mine before. I did initially just leave it unplugged, but I didnt want to leave it that way, so I just cleaned it and put it back and there has been no light on in the last year......plus you can get a refund on that replacement you said you bought..

and just an afterthought, you will want to drain and refill your cooling system so your new/cleaned sensor doesnt get all gummed up.

It's not hard, just kind of a pain to get the retainer around the sensor. Well at least for me, it kept popping off.

The only thing I took out was my battery to get at it. Drain the coolant so it is just below the sensor. Mine looked like it had some big barnicle from the Titanic on it. It no doubt came from using tap water, which is a big no no as I learned.

X2, but I did not even drain it down ~ just have it ready & do a quick hot swap. A little white grease on the O-ring also helps. Make sure its the sensor ~ a friend had a bad rad cap that was hanging open causing his sensor to activate (water would flow into the overflow tank, but not return to the Rad.)

I wouldn't recommend trying it that way. I did my knock sensor like that. I got the sensor off and my finger in the hole fast, but damn if I could get it to thread in right away. I was so worried about trying not to make a mess, I had a damn geyser under the car. The sensor is not threaded for the low coolant, but if you try that just beware that you could have a mess on your hands.

it not hard you just have to take you battery off and don't clean it replace it. The is a metal tip in the middle of the sensor that corrodes and be sure that the clip that holds it in place is on both sides of the new sensor to hold tight up against the radiator. I just drain a little bit coolant using the drain on the bottom of the radiator so it would not make a mess.
