Is Loudmouth Legal?

I have a few questions. I know that the SLP Loudmouth is emissions legal, but is it loud enough that a cop can give you a ticket for "sound polution"? Has anyone gotten a ticket for sound polution with a LT1 with a Loudmouth? Also does anyone have the adapter to put it on a Single cat LT1 car? Must be pretty cheap too.

Thanks
Chad

Will cops give you a ticket? Depends on the cop. I have had a state trooper pull up next to me and told me to "rev it up" he thought it sounded great. But he was probably an enthusiast. I dont drive my car late at night or early in the morning and always let off the gas when i see a cop. Just being safe.

Most states don't have laws regarding it. Sound laws are left to each city to have thier own ordinance.

Well, the cops around me are total D!CKS!!!! They think they have to be king SH*T and give out tickets for no reason! They pull spike strips out on a car that was on a "high speed" chase... he was going 25 mph. Yes he was drunk but still!

1. No cat back has any effect on emisions, thats not how it works. It measures by volume present. You could have the most restrictive exhaust system in America, if the car still has over the amount of hydro carbons or what ever over the car will fail. So the Loud Mouth is as legal as any thing else.

2. SRT-4s have the same set up no muffler just a resonator.

3. A bunch of us with single cat cars just cut the main intermediate pipe and welded the Louth mouth on to that.

Ok thanks...hopefully I won't have any problems. Anyone have a kit to mate the Loudmouth to the single cat LT1?

I would use my stock I pipe. But I did a LT1 swap and the LT1 y pipe/cat doesnt bolt up to the stock V6 I pipe. They are different sizes. But if anyone has their stock I pipe they would cut off for me I'd appreciate it. I'd pay shipping!

I think that almost all aftermarket catbacks would likely get you a noise violation. I had a friend that had just a Flowmaster and the cop was goin to give him a ticket. Yes, the cop had a meter or something to measure decibals. The cop was cool and didnt though. I have been pulled over a bunch of times and NOTHING was ever said about my exhaust. I think it really does come down to the individual cop.

My brother got a noise ticket in his 5.0 with flows. No cats etc. So I would say yes, if the cop was in the mood I'm sure you could get a citation with a loudmouth

1. Noise regulations usually vary by state/county/etc.. in CA they set a limit at 190 dB's or something

2. SRT-4's are turbocharged and the turbocharger essentially acts as a muffler being in the exhaust stream and all. I drove two of my turbo cars with just a resonator and neither were very loud.

3. Loudmouths are fine until you put some headers or remove the cat(s) and then they just become really really really loud

LTs/3" True Duals/12" Bullets

Cops have no case when they give me **** about my exhaust.

"Those aren't mufflers!"

*whips out Summit Catalog*

" I dunno.."

Hmm, well maybe my textbook from school will list it.(I have a full degree in Automotive) I also sell these at my work.

"oh, no, thats ok. Just try to keep it quieter next time."

Dumbasses.

Varies state to state. When I lived in SoCal, it wasn't unusual to see cops just waiting at various locations on weekend evenings trying to tag V8's for noise violations when they couldn't get you for flat-out racing etc. Headers, no cat, flowmaster am. thunder is not liked too much in SoCal (San Diego), but that was in 2000, so who knows now. Imports are the main offenders now, so to speak, and what they're mainly chasing, anyways, from what I see.

Most of the cops are in their 30s or better, and do indeed dig that muscular V8 tone, so depending where you're at, or how big of d**ks they're being, you may be okay.

I can say this. With the loudmouth only, I wouldn't be at the top of your powerband and pass any cop. They are indeed pretty damn loud.

My understanding is that any aftermarket exhaust is illegal in the sound category. So it is up to the jurisdiction and officer if you are in violation.
