loud whistle noise inbetween 2500-3000 rpm

Hi guys,

just finally got everything in my car working wonderfully as far as the engine goes the tranny is another story right now... and it runs as idle fine and revs fine.... but inbetween 2500-3000 rpm there is a loud whistle noise that comes from the engine compartment... sounds like a turbo whine from inside the car and outside and had a freind look at it and he says it could possibly be an intake leak but that isnt possible we just put new gaskets on it. i have the metal air inlet hose for the front of the throttle body that is new... have trickflow 195cc heads... and an edlbrock performer rpm cam... could any of these contribute... o and a new alternator..

thanks for your time.

I'm with your friend on this one. A whistle noise is usually a vacuum leak.

What is used to test for leaks? I always used carb cleaner, which would make the engine run faster if a leak was found, but maybe too many people would blow themselves up using that stuff. Is there something nonflammable that would make the engine die a little when ingested instead?

He suggested using tranny fluid cause you would see it get sucked down fast. it doesnt seem like a big deal but he said i could burn or melt a piston sooo..

Maybe just water in a spray bottle? That shouldn't do anything.

that would be a great idea if i wanted to get steam in a cylinder and blow up my engine because of the hydraulic effect... why dont i try it lol

How much do you think you can spray in all the cylinders (do you know the intake splits it's air into ALL the cylinders)? Really, hydraulic, you're killing me! Please, quit sniffing the tranny fluid. Maybe I should know better than helping someone with an id with 666.

it doesnt take much... i saw a lawnmower engine in a class i had in school that got a few drops of water in it and that was enough to put part of the piston rod through the side of the block so im pretty sure u dont want water in ur cylinders.
