Question Loud Thumpin.....tranny????????

Long time I haven't been on here, board's sure changed. Anyway here goes guys, this is my problem. I got a 97Z A4 with 78,000K on it. Lately when I stomp it, I get a loud thumpin sound coming from like my rear end area. Sometimes I get 2 thumps. It happens in any gear but mostly when it downshifts from OD, gets the revs up, then shifts back. When it shifts hard the thumpin is more prevelent. A mechanic told me my tranny's probably shot and slippin but a couple guys told me that it could be my bushings in the rear or the mounts. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all...... S.J.S.

97 A4, K&N cold air, Flowmaster Cat-Backs, March pulleys, MAS airflo, Eibach pro kit, TB bypass, Big as hell 315's on rear.

I would also vote for a broken tranny mount. I personally have gone through 2 before I bought the 1LE trans mount, havent had a problem since.

Does the thumping occur mostly during harder acceleration? Or just during normal driving>?

it could be the tranny mount seeing that you have an A4 but the noise would come from under the console.

Have a look at the tranny mount. It is a pretty common part to go out. It is pretty easy to get to and check, so before you go spending money finding out what the problem is, I would check there first. Not to mention if it is busted, its pretty cheap and easy to fix.
