Lost power after going from 700R4 to 4L60E
Lost power after going from 700R4 to 4L60E
This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I'll give a brief review of what's been happening. A few years back, after doing my heads/cam install, I started having problems with the tranny not shifting after a hard launch. (obd1, high stall curse). After trying a few things including a couple computer "fixes" that didn't work, I decided to dump the 4l60e and try the 700r4. My best time before I made the switch was 12.01@113.5 with a 1.67 60'. Every time I had a better launch it wouldn't shift.
With the 700r4, I was now able to launch as hard as possible. But the mph was down by 1 1/2 over the 4l60e. Unfortunately not long afterward, I lost the motor. With a new stock shortblock and a slightly larger cam, the car was now pulling 60s in the 1.5s. Unfortunately the tranny no longer wanted to shift into 3rd under WOT, forcing me to have to lift to get it to shift. Even then, I was able to post my first ever 11 second timeslip. I got fed up with the 700r4, and after hearing that there was a surefire fix for the 4l60e blues, decided I would go back.
Now back at the track with the 4l60e, the fix did work to the tune of a new best 60' of 1.57. For whatever reason, I couldn't get into the 11s. The mph was only in the 111s in good weather conditions. That week I got it on the dyno and found that power would hit around 320 where it would plateau until around 5600 then skyrocket to 363 when the converter locked up. Now the computer was showing that rpms were dropping back down to 5000 after the converter locked, then climbing again. My previous numbers with my old cam were 345/416 with a steady climb showing. With the 700r4, the motor felt like it would pull to 7k if I didn't let off. Now with the 4l60 it feels like it's struggling to get to 6k in 2nd. What could be wrong? Why the loss of power from just a tranny swap? Sorry for being so long. Didn't mean to write a book.
