Loose Harmonic Balancer? help please...
Carefully examine the ATI unit. It is a two piece assembly. If only the hub is damaged it shouldn't be necessary to replace the entire assembly. Conversely, if the outer ring is the problem you might salvage the hub. The ring will only fit on the hub one way and the eccentric hole is clearly marked so that when all the bolt holes are aligned, the ring will be be back in the original position. The opti can be swapped by removing the outer ring and sliding the distributor around the hub. If the torx countersunk cap screws that hold the outer ring weren't torqued correctly or if some of them were left out, the ring unit could be loose on the hub.
It goes without saying that having the correct key in the crank is essential.

sorry to all, i have a golen 383 - steel crank, forged i beam rods, srp pistions, ported lt1 heads - the list is endless. its all N/A no boost.
i am running the ati superdamper (i still thought it was called a balancer as well) - it was installed all up at golen with the damper balanced on the engine dyno. I then imagin it was taken off for the MSD opti install and the new valves for the heads.

More than likely you have a failure with the damper.
