Looking for general info on a 94 Z28

I have a few general questions for you guys I am sure are easy answers. First off I am 18 years old and used to own a Paxton Novi blown Grand Prix. It was my baby until she got smashed by a van and was totalled. I am buying a 94 Z28, Green, hardtop, 6 speed. So here are my questions.

Is it the T56 tranny? Is the final drive something like 3.31?
Where do you guys go for aftermarket parts? LS1 stuff is too abundant, I want LT1 stuff!
What kind of times do these cars run stock? It certainly feels faster than my 260 FWHP Grand Prix.
I really want a short throw shifter, and a nice shifter grip, where would you find this?
Do these cars natuarally have a very lumpy idle, the Grand Prix with a stock car was so tame and silent (with my loudmouth it sounded quite good for a V6), the LT1 is quite loud and lumpy!

Thanks for any help, I can't wait to start driving this car!

Its the T56 tranny with a 3.42 final drive gear and an LT1 engine rated at 275hp. If you are looking for parts, check out the Supporting Vendor Index, you will find what you need there. These cars stock normally run low 14s to high 13s on average. Is your Grand Prix a GTP?

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

Is your Grand Prix a GTP?
Actually it was a GT, so it had higher compression, a bit lighter, and also had higher gears (3.29s vs the 2.92s on a GTP) so it was considerably faster than a GTP

Can anyone reccomend a short shifter for this car?

Did you do any mods. to your GT? Out of the factory, the GTP is the faster car.

Pro 5.0, Hurst shifter or B&M Ripper, theyre all fine shifters. personally i ahev the hurst short throw because it came on my old camaro and i swapped it over. might i also recommend going with the Lous Short Stick, Austin short stick, Speed INC short stick, any of them are fine. they make it feel SOOOO awesome. any other manual car you drive after driving an f-body with any of those combos will seem so sloppy and suck so much. i cant drive any other stick except my T/A. i hate everything else.lol. good luck, ask questions and you will learn as time goes on. im still learning so much. keep it fun.

Re: Looking for general info on a 94 Z28

I saw the pro 5.0 on jegs. How hard of an install is it? I have NEVER done a thing with a manual car before (pertaining to the drivetrain). Would like to get that nice SLP **** with it. The shifter on the car now feels "loose and sloppy" for lack of better words.

Yeah, my GT had a Paxton Novi 1000@9PSI, SLP loudmouth, Injectors, DHP PCM, and an AFC with a custom tune. It made GTPs seem slow. However the power curve os a CSC car feels turbo, the Camaro is insane with the low end torque it makes.

Re: Looking for general info on a 94 Z28

haha. the stock shifter SUCKS! Jegs has a decent selection of parts for LT1 cars, check around the local vender sites like mentioned earlier and look for the cheapest place. alot of times the prices will always be the same. i swapped shifters from my T/A and old camaro when my wrecked camaro was at my grandmas house. it sucked cause it was so dark and i had limited tools but i still did it in about 30 minutes. very easy. especially with a camaro you dont have to take half the console out. if you were able to do the grandprix mods you can do these, but beware of the evil LT1 when you get into headers and such.lol. they are very tideous when you get into the engine and sometimes very agrivating to work on. but keep it fun.

Do you guys run 93 octane gas (this Z28 is stock except for the SLP intake)? Are the internals forged on this car?
Thanks again guys, gathering as much info as I can!

One of the board members named Shoebox has a very good website with detailed installation write-ups. Another idea is to do a search on the specific install that you want to do and you will most likely find someone who posted some detailed writeups on the topic.
