my set up is around 440 rwhp without nos so there you go and you could get more with a custom grind cam. DO A LOT OF RESEARCH BEFORE YOU START. It'll save a ton of headaches, time and money. Ohhh and i do NOT suggest going with a fuddle converter(good product, HORRIBLE customer service.)

Increase your budget or forget the goal.. numberwise.

The stock transmission and rear end will not hold.

Fast, reliable or cheap. You can only pick two!

It can be done, but you're probably going to need more than 4 grand to make it.

Buy a used LS1 with heads/cam already on it and do a swap. You might make 500hp.

Otherwise with an LT1 you aren't making 500 whp cheap

4 grand does not go very far on an Lt1
block work, bore, stud, align hone,4340steel crank, good rods, forged pistons w/rings,nice solid roller,sr lifters, double roller chain, i think i past the 4k mark and you still need heads, roller rockers,header,exhaust,58mm,trans/stall or clutch assembly, fuel system,TUNE,12 bolt or s60,TQ arm,SFC yeah!!!!!!! 4k won't get you too far on this list of missing items...

why is 500hp your magical number?
why not do weight red. all suspension mods and a rear end that won't break as easy and some tire and nitrous, now that would be an awesome street car!

you have not really told enough info to get good answers. Are you talking about flywheel or rearwheel hp? They are two very different things, and with a stalled auto even more so.

with 4k you could maybe build a mild 383 assuming you can do every last bit of labor. Than you would have fuel system, tuning, suspension, and a rear end to save another 4k for. Again assuming you did all labor, if not add 35%. Than 750-1000 more for a decent n2o kit with safety items.

There is a saying around here that has already been mentioned. Fast reliable cheap, you pick two. Think about it.
