Longtubes with the Loudmouth...

I just purchased a set of Jet Hot headers. I've already been told that these headers with no cats is way too loud with the SLP Loudmouth exhuast, and doesn't sound all that great.

My question is will getting a set of cats make this setup sound good? Or should I leave the cats off and get a bullet style muffler like the Dynomax bullet and have that replace the SLP resonator on the Loudmouth?

Also, does anyone have soundclips of Longtubes with the Loudmouth exhuast?

TIA

I'm about to install a set of Jet-Hots on my 96 and was wondering the same thing. Good post.

I think a bullet (resonator) is gonna be really darn similar to the SLP resonator

A lot of guys have told me about replacing the Loudmouth resonator with the Dynomax Bullet and they say its a lot quieter.

please define 'a lot'. It may be a better resonator, but it's still only a single resonator in a catless long tube exhaust setup and i can't imagine it making that drastic of a difference. Some people may actually like this type of setup, IMHO it doesn't sound good, just sloppy and obnoxious. But thats just one guys opinion

Does anyone have any experience with these setups at all? Or any soundclips?

There is a guy around here locally that has a custom-made straight pipe set-up(no different than the piping of the LM) with no cats on his LT1 T/A and it is very unrefined/raspy/poppy. I personally think it sounds horrible compared to most of the other LT1's I've heard.

BTW, the resonator in the LM isn't really a resonator(just a slightly larger peice of hollow piping). A Dynomax bullet muffler won't really make it much quieter, but will clean up the tone a bit. But without cats, it still sounds like $hit IMO.

I'd look into a Hooker cat-back if you wanna run that ORY...

Thanks for the info, I'm probably going to have cats installed into a custom y pipe then.
