i just wanted to know if anyone else has ran their opti for 137,000 and change because mine just went out and it was the original even though my water pump went out at 105,000

 

mine put me in the 13's w/ just a homemade cai at 137k...its still goin at 143k but not as strong at all

 

i dynod 275 horse and 300 tq sae corrected through an a4 with long tubes slp cai and airfoil and wires right before it went out out still have never been to the track

 

I remember seeing a guy on here posting about his car hitting 200,000 and STILL having original opti.

For someone to know if it is the orignal opti you need the be the only owner ever. Some vehicles have had them changed and there is no way to tell.

I am not stating it is not possible. I have had some last for a long long time and lately they have not since I spin the setup a bit higher.

Also opti's seem to last way longer on a daily driver basically stock setup. A cab or a squad I am sure has the most amount of miles ever on a opti.

 

Yes there are a couple of them.

 

The opti is NOWHERE near as bad as the internet would have you believe. There are more than a few with over 200K, some owners keep detailed record so it is possible to know is a used car you bought is original or not.

 

mine is a 1993 Z28 the original owner was my dad then he sold it to me for 1 dollar when i graduated high school so i know i was the first to replace it i wish mine would have seen 200,000 knock on wood that nothing else goes out before then

 

Look at the number of "Opti" posts on this forum on any given day.

It's a pretty bad design, IMO.

 

I bought the car at 30k and it had already been replaced with MSD guts.

Some poeple have great luck, others have not.

FWIW I think there are more "oh **** it's the opti" posts than then are legitimate opti issues.

 

THe thing is most guys who have basicly stock engines will get good mileage from the opti. It's guys that have done quite a few modifications to thier cars that end up runnign through opti's, cause in reality, they weren't made for much more than what the stock engine was set up for. I'm on my third Optical turd now.

 

People just like to whine about them. It gets really old.

 

mine went out at about 159,000

 

we all know these units are kind of sensitve to high voltage from other than a stock coil even then they go bad from abuse.
then some people strap on a super coil and then wonder why they puke so quick.
almost forgot 215,000 on a caprice i owned 96,000 on my t/a
