Longer install: Heads or cam?

I'm looking to get new heads (or stock ones P&Ped) and I was wondering which usually takes longer to do? Heads removal/install or the LT4 hot cam kit?I paid around $1000 for the install of my hot cam kit and I don't wanna pay $1000 for the heads

you need to start doing **** yourself

cam will take much longer that headers
(including springs and rockers)

12 hrs vs 8 hrs

I know, I know

I did the headers myself and everything else before the hot cam kit....are you saying it's only 4 hours total to remove and install the heads?

Where can I get a good guide that says how to remove the heads? I think I might give it a shot and if worse comes to worse I can get the car towed to the mechanic and whatever I already did saved me money......

crap
sorry
i thought it said headers

i cant imagine a head swap taking longer than 6 hrs (if its already assembled)

a cam swap will take 12 or so, but your 1/3 the way there once you take the intake off anyway.

i cant see a head swap giving you much more power on a stock cam anyway

If you attempt to do it yourself and then tow it to a mechanic, more than likely they will charge you more, than if you brought it to one in the first place. You also will provide them with some entertainment, they will laugh their asses of at you when your not there, hey lookie here that guy thought he could do his own heads and now look at him.

Cam swap will take longer, if it inlcudes changing the springs and such(not considering that if you buy heads they usually come with everything installed on them)

Yea, thats the comparasion I'm asking. Did you say it's only 4 total hours? Where can I find an install guide?

Hey Trey, you know a lot about heads? Should I just buy LT4 ones, AFR ones or get my stock ones P&Ped?

You hit that one, a GOOD mechanic won't laugh at you, but around here those are few and far between. Most of the Good mechanics work as service manager's at GM Dealerships.

IMHO,
call a good mechanic
"I want to do a cam swap, i would like to do what i can and have you guys do the rest, i dont feel comfortable doingxxxxxx"

then
take out the radiators, intake, heads... whatever you can
and have them do the rest

i cant see either taking 4 hrs

min with good tools-
6hrs R&R heads
10 hrs cam
