Long Tubes with Single Cat?
Long Tubes with Single Cat?
Hi people...
Very long time since I've been here. Still have my '95 Z. Considering Long Tubes but need to run a single cat. I haven't seen any long tube y-pipe that will mount a cat as well. Is it possible? And has it been done?
Thanks!

Re: Long Tubes with Single Cat?
I've heard of it being done, but I don't know how efficient it is really going to be considering the cat is going to be at the tailend of the y-pipe which spaces it a good distance away from the headers themselves.
Re: Long Tubes with Single Cat?
I know it's kind of ridiculous, but it's a necessity thanks to the smog police. No sniffer test here in NC on '95 and older but definitely needs to pass the visual.
Re: Long Tubes with Single Cat?
I did it.. i can give you a pic of what my set up looks like if you want.. i have hooker long tubes, hooker off road y-pipe, and then a hooker catback with a cat welded in the i-pipe... however im told its choking my engine so im removing it.. replacing with a cutout, and putting two mini cats in the y-pipe..
but yes its very possible.. just not very efficient

Re: Long Tubes with Single Cat?
If you don't have to pass the sniffer test, then you will be fine. The only reason why I had a pair of mini-cats welded into my y-pipe was simply in case of a visual inspection.
