Long Tubes how hard to put in?

Alright to every one with long tube headers (I'm sure there is a lot of you) how hard is it to put long tube headers, ceramic coated, on a 94 Z
Does the motor have to be pulled or will they go up from underneath.
Also how much horse power will I gain from Long tubes with 2.5 in. cat back with flowmaster 40 series muff.

Thanks

A bit tough and time consuming; make sure you have everything before you start. In short, there are a TON of threads on this. Whatever you cant find in a search can be answered with another thread. BTW, mine both went in underneath with the motor jacked up.

Thanks and how much did you pay for your headers?

its time consuming, took me like about 10hrs start to finish, like said, make sure u have EVERYTHING before you start and really saok the exhaust manifol bolts in PB blaster and be easy taking them out..

if ur doing it on jackstands, better make sure the car gets high
heres ocuple pics from my install

It takes a few hours if you know what you're doing. Having said that the first time took me 12 hours. Take the motor mount bolts out and lift the engine a few inches and they go in from the bottom nicely.

Oh, and do a search first next. There are hundreds of header install posts

Theyre not THAT bad, but they can be a pain in the ***. I got my driver in through the top and the passanger in through the bottom. There is some stuff in the way, but it really isnt that bad. power gains, depends, maybe 10 15. definately reserve the weekend for it. good luck

They are a PITA. It took me 24 hours to put in my mids. Everyone will say im slow but it takes a lot of time and patence. In my defence though that did include motor mounts, deleted EGR and AIR, plugs and made to fit wires.

seems like an awful lot of work, time, and money to only gain 10-15hp. but you're talking 10-15hp on a stock unmodified engine right? i mean the more you improve the intake side the more difference the headers will make right? or are the stock manifolds just that good?

Re: Long Tubes how hard to put in?

Its not too bad, the hardest part for me was getting off all of the old equipment. 3 cans of PB Blaster and a store bought reciprocating saw made short work of the stock manifolds, y-pipe, and catback. As for the actual install, you will have to pop off the steering linkage, alternator, starter motor, oil dipstick, and I would even take off the coolant temp sensor located in the drivers side head so you don't break it when putting in the header.

If you have the right tools and technical know how then its not that bad... just a lot of steps that take a lot of time. But if you havent done work like this before and dont have a wide collection of tools then you could be working on your car for days.

Re: Long Tubes how hard to put in?

well yea...the more flow going in the more the LT's would help let it out. if i went from stock manifolds to LT's on mine, with the procharger, i could see 30 hp or so. it all depends. LT's are the way to go though. They take more time but they really make a big difference. Do it, you wont regret it. Good Luck. (any more questions can surely be answered by checking the archives, this has been posted about 100 times since ive been here. just do a search for it. :-) )

Not at all, it looks like more of a daunting task then it really is. Just take your time and it should go smoothly.
