Local dealer is a joke

I stopped by my local dealer for a new drivers side fog light a few weeks ago and was quoted $220 just for the light assembly. I just got my delivery from GMParts Direct which included a new fog light, 1LE elbow, and two O2 sensors for $218 delivered. Do they think I am that stupid at the dealership? Thank the automobile gods for the internet.

I've found that almost all local dealers will charge the GMPartsDirect suggested retail price which is typically about 35% to 45% higher than what they (GMPartsDirect) sell them for. Most customers don't know they're getting screwed on the price.

If you used one of the discounters, Jason Cromer, Dal Slabaugh, it would be cheaper yet.

One of the local Chevy dealers in town here (the parts guys) don't even know who SLP is! I had to explain to them who it was that generated those beloved SS's on their lot.

Do Camaros really need a whole new foglight assembly when one's burnt? I needed a new bulb for my T/A foglight, and the dealer wanted to sell me a whole assemby for $105. I bought a bulb (pair actually) for ten bucks.

A bulb should be just fine. You at MacGuire?

I paid 103 and change at my local dealer for the fog light -- the lens was cracked. After the new one cracked and burnt out, I switched to Hella FF50 clear fogs. Much brighter, they look better with the projector headlights and $85 for the pair plus another $10 for the stone shields. Oh, yeah -- they really work in the fog!

They are smaller and more oval than the FF75s that some guys are using to replace their junk stock headlights. The FF75s are about the size of a stock light but the corners of the housing are more rounded. Since I have round Hella projectors, the oval foglights don't look out of place like the original boxy stock fogs did.

Edit -- The FF75s would probably look better with stock headlights and I had to make my own brackets. Basically a piece of 3/16 x 3 steel strap with holes drilled in the right spots.
