it lives! the hotcam works
it lives! the hotcam works
after one long cam install, 3 opti's, 1 fire, one ghetto rigged knock sensor after a magnet tore it in pieces, two sets of spark plugs and wires, 4 shirts, and a few stitches, it lives. it drives, it has throttle response, it is a car. i drove it home. it goes. the fire took out a harness that went to my passenger side front wheel. now when i am driving it says the parking brake is on. i do not know if this is true or not. i blame it on the fire. i also get a ticking noise from the engine area, it speeds up with rpm. i am not sure if my rockers need adjustment or what. i am also getting a pretty bad flat spot in my power curve at the top, might be the rockers once again. it could also be that i was running with the borla closed so i could hear my engine to see if it was detonating or anything.
lets try to diagnose my ticking noise, its driving me crazy. if it speeds up with rpm, i would assume rockers? i also have a flat spot on curve later on in rpms so that would make sense i think. it could also be the fully closed exhaust, though. my exhaust would make the popping noise on deceleration in the y-pipe, not out the muffler. there is also the reality of maybe i took out cylinder 6, and maybe another in the fire i had. i don't know, but at least i have something to drive

other strange thing was before cam install, i would stomp the gas and tires spin, now i hit it and no spin
the good news, that or maybe its bad, is that i drove back with the temps at like 175 for about 30 minutes without the fans ever having to come on. thats pretty darn cool in my book

Re: it lives! the hotcam works
That light is not just an E-brake light... it's a warning light for your brake system. Just like the SES light for the engine. That wiring harness you burnt sounds like a wheel speed sensor for the ABS. That would set the light off. No offence, but you sound like Tim Allen, hehe.
The fans souldn't turn on anyway if your driving at a decent speed because the air is moving through the radiator on it's own and doesn't need help from the fans (unless you have the A/C on.)
Roller rockers usually make noise. Not that uncommon.

if its an ABS wheel speed sensro then no bigge, i pulled the ABS fuse on my car. i hate ABS. and i am sure that thing is expensive, and mine is physically a glob of plastic glue from the fire.
it is the GM hot cam (219/228, 112 lsa, .525" lift) probably do sound like tim allen with that fire, all i can say is never buy a remanufactured distributor from checker. i know of a few with reman's from autozone, but from now on i will stick with just GM. i would think if it rocker arm ticking, there wouyld be a lot more, but i can specifally hear one loud ticking noise from the passenger side that speeds up with rpm, maybe just one rocker came loose or something
my gangster knock sensor might be doing something too. i used my magnet top pick something off the passenger side on the floor, it caught onto the knock sensor and tore the wires right out the back of it. i got insulated speaker wire, jammed it in the back of the knock sensor, taped it up real good, then just twisted around the exposed wire and taped it with electrical tape and tucked it away from the headers, but i think it might work better now than it ever did.

Re: it lives! the hotcam works
Hmmm, maybe just a misadjusted rocker. Try adjusting them again. And yeah, ummm, I would get a new KM, lol. There has to be something wrong with just stickin a wire into it. That is kinda a crutial part.
Re: it lives! the hotcam works
yeah, i thinks its just a misadjusted rocker. nah, its the knock sensor in the block. i would have to splice anyway, this way i just have two splices instead of one, lol. it worked fine on the ride home, i am relaly thinking its a rocker. that or with my luck its liek rediculous loud valve tap, but i doubt that as it really doesn't sound liek it as it is ticking, not smacking.
Re: it lives! the hotcam works
Have you tried listening to the valve covers with a long piece of wood put up to your ear? You may be able to move it around on the cover to figure out where it gets louder and give you a better idea.
I figure out you've ruled exhaust out?

Re: it lives! the hotcam works
oh, as for ticking coming from exhaust, i always weld my exhaust totally shut, and i do not have a leak coming from the heads to exhaust manifolds, which is the only place it is not welded.
