Limited Slip Gone.....

My limited slip stopped engaging today. My right tire spins and spins, but the left does not move. You can hear a faint "pop" when the left one is suppose to engage, but that's about it. Is it possible that something is just loose? Or does something have to be broken for limited slip to stop working? I just tested it again and it worked.....and then it stopped. So it's on and off.....carrier?? If I sheered the teeth off the planetary set, wouldn't the tire spin, then stop, then start spinning again. Right now, if the left doesn't spin in the beginning, it doesn't spin at all. If it starts, it goes until I take my foot off the petal. Thanks.

got to the local gm dealer and pick up some limited slip additive and then go to autozone and get two bottles of [your choice brand] diff. fluid and get a rear end gasket too. Change the fluid and get back to us. It worked form my friend with a 98Z

The fluid is only 6 months old though, and I did use the additive when I changed it........
