Limit of the stock LT1 timing set.
Hey guys, planning on the XE 224/230 cam, I also plan to pick up the GM Extreme Duty LT4 timing set due to wanting to keep my crank position sensor.
It is necessary correct? As far as I have been told it's not worth the risk to run a fresh stock LT1 set?

You'll be fine with a stock timing set, but for $250 why not go with the LT4 set? I did, and it was definitely nice seeing the difference between that and the stock set. Much beefier gears. I recommend using the LT4 Extreme Duty but many have used stock ones with no problems.

I actually do want the electric water pump but I'm going to have to wait on that one a bit since I can't really afford to get the WP and the double roller at the moment
The water pump removal/install process is quick & easy for me so I don't mind doing it later.I guess it's better to be safe than sorry, so I'll probably get the Extreme Duty

Any other opinions still welcome.
I had to make the decision of the LT4 chain or converting to the vented opti, E-water pump, and double roller.
I spent the extra money (my non-vented opti was almost new, though I DID sell it......) and went the cloyes double roller setup. No questions on strength there, and may have gained a couple HP in the process.

I actually moved from the Cloyes to a stock one. I was mainly having clearance issues and just didn't want to fool with it at the time. I'm pulling enough power to spin the crank hub on a NA engine and haven't had a problem yet

I had some clearance issues on mine.
I just used a high speed air disc sander and grounded about 40 thousands off the back of the timing cover.
I checked the clearance first without the gasket installed and made sure it clearanced it without any problems. And than when the gasket is installed there would be no problems for sure.

How did you have clearance issues? I did NOTHING special to install my Cloyes; I pulled the water pump drive and plugged the hole, but nothing else.
