Are lightweight driveshafts worth the $
Are lightweight driveshafts worth the $
Just curious how much RWHP i would gain from a carbon fiber or aluminum driveshaft. They seem to be quite costly, so is it really worth it?
Thanks,
Greg

any cut in rotating mass is cool but i don't think the carbon fiber is worth all the money on a daily driver. I'd be afraid of something flying up and breaking it...
I'd go for an aluminum DS though.... I plan on changing mine in the near future even if I just do a take-off off of a newer Z.

there is a dyno graph on this and other mods...www.ws6.com
The weight savings of a lightweight driveshaft really only affects the overall weight of the car (save 10 lbs). Don't look at the driveshaft for any power gains. The weight difference doesn't help rotatinal mass hardly at all because the shaft is only like 3 inches wide. That's nothin compared to the flywheel or a tire (25 lbs and 26" diameter). If you plan on racing look for the STRONGEST driveshaft you can afford. Steel is very strong and cheap.
