Lifters are still ticking
I just wanted to see if anyone can offer up any advice for me. Last year I adjusted my valves because the lifters were getting a little noisy on some of the valves. I tried the engine off method using a 1/2 turn instead of 3/4 like the manual says, and they were very loose and loud. Then I tried the engine running method, still going 1/2 turn, and they are still loud, but not as bad.
Is there anything that I can do to try to get the valves and lifters back to normal? The car runs fine, and I'm not throwing any codes, it's just annoying.

I assume you have RRs---SA or Non-SA? 1.6 ratio? What is the recommended adjustment?
Considering that the stock adjustment is up to 1 full turn past 0, going with 1/2 is the usual recommendation, however, if they are still too noisy for you, then going as much as 1 full turn may quiet them down. Also going with a little heavier oil may help.
Generally, going with a tighter lash will give the cam more duration and help your top end, while going with less lash will decrease duration and improve your 60s.
I run a baby cam with low-end power. I am at 1 full turn on my SA RRs to quiet them down. And since my cam profile is taking care of the bottom end, I don't mind increasing my duration with the 1 full turn to help me with some mid and top. JMHO

Yup, factory recommends 1 full turn. Whether you go with RRs or not, it won't hurt to go with a heavier spring. FActory springs are marginal. You can experience the weakness when you go top end----springs seem to float and you lose power. JMHO
