lifters still tick even after installing new lifters

I can't seem to figure out what my problem is. I had a few lifters ticking so i just replaced them all. Even after the new lifters it still ticks. It even sounds like the same area as before. It sounds good at idle but if I rev it to 1500-2000 you can hear it. I would say it's about 3 or 4 of them. Oil pressure is fine like 30 at idle and 45 at 2000. Is it possible a few of the rockers could be worn bad or something? The engine is rebuilt but the rockers have about 200k on them. Anybody have any ideas?

Mine did the same exact thing. I finally got mine to quiet by setting the preload to 3/4 (Ls7 lifters), tightening the locks, then tightening the adjustment nut another 1/8 or so which really smashes the locks down.

200K on rockers? That is where I would look. Are they stock rockers?

How do you know its the lifters and NOT the rolloer rockers? Assuming you do have RR's.

From my experience, a lifter tick at startup (as a result of the lifter not being pumped up with oil) is rather loud but then goes silent after a few seconds leaving the normal roller rocker ticking sound.

This is on my 94 Z28. It has just the stock rockers on it. But yea everything was rebuilt but the guy reused the lifters and stock rockers. That's when I replaced the lifters with a new set of Lunati lifters. The rockers like I said have at least 200k on them. I set them when it was running. I first went 1/4 turn after Zero lash but then went 1/2 but it still makes noise.

Stock rockers are non-adjustable. So that's what's on it now?

Sorry, Hal. Stock rockers are adjustable and use the acorn style nut to adjust lash. All SBC's use this arrangment

you must be thinking of the LS engines. Those you just tighten down like on the old small block fords.

Book says 3/4 past zero going by a method of being able to move the pushrod up and down which I find very strange. I found that zero lash is a little past when you can no longer spin the rod with your fingers. I use a small ratchet and set zero by the first time the ratchet, not my fingers, feel it's tight (as long as it's not binding). Either way I had the same exact issue and found it to be an adjustment problem.
