Lifters bad? Not getting oil to top end
Lifters bad? Not getting oil to top end
I've already tried searching around, but haven't been able to find a thread that helps me to completely diagnose my problems. I just recently got the Camaro running after blowing the headgaskets last November. Has all new gaskets now, headers, EGR delete, AIR delete, and heads resurfaced. So, not much changed from before it blew up. It's reassembled with the same lifters that it had before, but now it isn't getting any oil to the top end. The lash was set before firing it up, and I rechecked it after it was running using the engine running method and going any tighter started to kill the motor, so I would assume that lash is not the problem here. Have the lifters just not pumped up? Are they probably bad, I don't know how many miles are on them, I would probably assume that they have the same amount that's on the car (almost 160k). The car runs AWESOME now, but the ticking that comes from the top end is horrendous. Oil pressure itself is good, 20psi warm idle, and 40psi cold idle. This is the first car I've torn apart, and being only 18, so I'm proud to have revived it this far. I just don't want to screw up anything else.
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Re: Lifters bad? Not getting oil to top end
In addition, I have discovered that when the car is cold (for example this morning after not having driven it for like a week), the noise doesn't seem as prevalent until it warms up a bit. But once it has warmed it, it's pretty loud.
Another problem, i'm sure it's a simple fix, how have people eliminated the rattle/squeek/noise from the pacesetter ory? It sits right up against the frame rail and knocks and whatnot when you hit the gas and when decelerating. I think i've read about people using foam or something, i just don't want to melt anything to the car too.
Thanks,
Nick

Re: Lifters bad? Not getting oil to top end
The lifters are not adjusted right.
With it running back them off till they clack. Then turn them slowly till they stop clacking. THEN 1/4 turn more.
It will make the engine shudder but the lifter should back down. Don't do the next one until the lifter backs down on the one ya just did. Let it run a while to see if oil gets to the top.
Get a mech oil pressure guage and verify the oil pressure. With the high miles ya may need to go with a heaver oil to try and bring it up.
