lifters
lifters
I'm putting lifters and roller rockers in my Lt1 and want some opinions. Ive been told to get some gmpp lifters....where can i order these from and are they LS7's or just replacements. Whats your thoughts on roller rockers, i was told to go with 1.6's but what brand. It's pretty much stock but i have some upgrades in mind when the funding is a little better.....thanks Mike
i found LS lifters from Gmpartsdirect.com for $114 part #12499225
does this sound like the right ones and a fair price?
oh and also if i put 1.6 rr's on will i have to get taller valve covers?

That is the correct part for the LS7 lifters and they are a great replacement. You might need longer push rods as they have a .1000 deeper pushrod cup than the stockers but many people on here argue this fact. Lloyd Elliot told me I might need longer PR's on mine, but the best bet is buy an adj pr and check for your length and order the right length. Also the Crane gold will work just fine with your stock VC's without any modifictions, as I have em' on my 383 with chromed stock VCs. The only ones that require mods are (I believe) the Comp Pro Mags and any shaft mounted rockers.
cause it has a tap most of the time and a nasty tap when I first fire it up... until the lifters pump up i assume. And last week was the second time that a rocker arm jumped off, they were different rockers each time
Stock lifters are very reliable you would do well to find the source of the problem. Probably is a good idea to go ahead and replace them though just incase they were damaged. Improper adjustment would be my number one suspicion.
"lifter ticking" is usually an exhaust gasket leak and it can go away as parts warm and expand.

if you go to a 1.6 rocker you may want to get some better springs - the stock LT1 springs aren't very good at upgrades in the valve train - as for LS7 lifters they are a good replacement, for guide plates that depends on the type of rocker you purchase. NSA (non-self-aligning) rockers need guide plates, and SA (self-aligning) rockers do not.
