lifters
lifters
my curretn lifters are stock at about 100,000 miles. they are making a ticking sound and i would like to know if i cleaned out old oil and put in mobile one synthetic 20-50 the sound would go away? is this oil too thick for cold weather i live in colorado?
Are you sure you just don't need the valves adjusted? Going to thicker oil in a cold climate does not make any sense to me. Normally you would do the opposite. Normal recommended oil is 5W-30, I think. If your lifters are truly making noise, it is time to replace them, don't try to cover up the problem.
dont go with that thing of an oil if its cold. My lifters were clacking away, and I was only runing straight 30w. They probably just need to be ajusted, like he said.
Do they click all the time? Or just when your start it up, before it gets to normal temp?
Some may say its dumb, but if your going to have the lifters replaced, you mine as well spend the extra money and drop in a cam, while the top of the motor is off.
just my .02
