Lifter Tick Pictures?

Since i got the car in 2009 ive noticed a ticking sound on the right side. It'll tick until the engine warms up. Once it is warms up the ticking stops. So I want to go in and fix this problem. Im thinking its a bent push rod or a loose rocker arm. What i want to know, does anyone have pictures on how to fix a lifter? I would do alot better job on it if i had step by step pictures. Thanks

Could also be a exhaust leak that is small and when it warms up, the metals expand and seal the leak. My headers do this a couple times a year as I do not have locking header bolts.
Something to check out.

It's a pretty involved job to fix lifters. I'd advise picking up a service manual. It will have all the pics you'll need plus step by step instructions with torque specs.

Yea thats what i thought too that it was just an exhaust leak because i did have exhaust work done on it. I had my buddy who knows everything about LT1s (who unfortunately moved states) and see said its for sure a lifter.

I have a service manual but its confusing. It doesnt go step by step. It'll skip a few things. Also they have like two pictures for the job

X2 Had a cracked exhaust manifold that did the same thing. Cold had a tick warm no tick.

Pull that valve cover off and check the rockers by hand,if it were a bent push rod it would not matter if it was warmed up or not..I am leaning towards a leaking exhaust manifold gasket,I would go over and make sure all the studs and bolts are tight before anything else.Where in Michigan are you?

The sound is exactly the same!!! You can not tell by listening. Get your hand on the exhaust when it's cold and feel for a leak. Also look for carbon track/s around the gaskets.
If you don't find anything, then pull the valve cover and check the lifters.

Take a length of heater hose and hold one end to ear and probe the other end around the exhaust manifold. Probe along the valve cover also and you will hear a whole lot.

Thanks guys. Sorry i didnt responed right away, i was away from my computer all day yesterday. Im pretty sure that im going to go with you guys on this one. I could very possibly be a exhaust leak because it did just have exhaust work done on it a few years ago. Im going to check it once i get home today.

Wouldnt a bent pushrod cause my car to run rough, and sluggish? I just thought of that, it wouldnt just tick. I live in Sterling Heights.

Re: Lifter Tick Pictures?

anytime i bent a pushrod it would fall into the valley and would usually be after so sort of internal issue. my money is on an exhaust gasket or cracked manifold.

Exactly. I just thought of that off the top of my head. If it were a bent pushrod there will be more problems then just a tick
