lifter replacement

lifter replacement

is it possible to replace a lifter with the head still in the car. If so what tools will i need and is there a tech article or something that can guide me through it, i really need to get this fixed as soon as possible

Yes, you can change out your lifters with the heads still on. All you have to do is remove the intake manifold and they are right there.
Here is how to do it.
1 remove intake
2 remove vavle covers
3 losen rockers to allow for removal of pushrods
4 remove pushrods and make sure that you keep them in the proper order (use cardboard and number where you got them from)
5 remove spider looking thing
6 pull out the old lifers

to install just do it in reverse. Remember though that you are now going to have to reset the rockers. Also make sure that you lifters are going out. I don't know what the problems are that your are experiencing, but I had what I though was a bad lifter and it turned out to be an exhaust leak. I kept on hearing what to me sounded like a lifter that was leaking down and causing my valves to rattle when I first started it up and then it went away. Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply, i dont know if i need to go as far as replacing the lifter now. I tightened down the rocker and it made the noise quiter so im gonna let it cool down and try again and see what happens. its making a kinda chirping noise through the 6th cylinder
