lifter problem?

this problem started about a week ago. Whenever i start the motor up when its cold the car makes a weird noise from the motor and it runs really rough. This usually only lasted for about 10 seconds or so then it would go away and run smooth.

Well when i started it up yesterday the noise didnt go away for like 2 minutes or so then on the way to work it just started doing it constantly. I pilled the valve cover off and the rocker arm was completely off the pushrod and spring. The not on the stud didnt not come loose either. Does this sound like a lifter to you? What else should i check> thanks

Re: lifter problem?

It sounds like you got a real problem. Either your rockers were not put on correctly or your lifters are not pumping up. This can be caused by dirt, sludge, and grime building up in them. Its not fun but pull one out and clean it. You have to take is apart and clean it with mineral spirits and then put oil on them. Or you can just buy some new ones and throw them in. How many miles are on the car and has it always been yours?
