Lifter Problem!!
Lifter Problem!!
I have comp r lifters in my car. I have had a large loss in power in my car for a while now when it heats up, so obviously I haven't been driving it. Well I also started to get a noise in the top of the motor like something was loose. I took off the intake and found that the #1 cylinders intake lifter was turned a quarter turn so the roller was sideways to the cam. The piece of metal that holds it straight was pushed up and moving as the motor ran, (MY NOISE!). It bent that piece of metal that holds it down. WHY WOULD THIS HAPPEN!!! Does this mean the lifter is bad? Is this causing the power loss when it gets warm? I took all of the comp r lifters out and put the stock ones back in, set preload to the best of my knowledge and started it. It is loud as hell now and I don't mean the exaust.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
thanks,
Paul

Re: Lifter Problem!!
You will probably have to pull the engine and clean the metal out of it and check ALL the brg's.Replace the oil pump cam and lifter's.What made it jump-hard to say,but it had something to do with installation or adjustment and something was not correct
Re: Lifter Problem!!
I warmed the car up and pulled the pass side valve cover off. There was a very loose rocker arm. I adjusted it and it seems to be running fine now. I really want to find out why this lifter did what it did. I don't see why I would need to pull the motor and clean it out. The comp r lifter is totally intact and the stock one I put back in is working just fine with the cam as far as I know. I put about 12-15k on this motor since the comp r's went in along with a complete rebuild. This whole thing makes me nervous. Thank you very much for your Ideas so far.
I had the car dyno tunes at AP Engineering a couple months ago and it ran pretty strong. 341.6 RWHP.

Re: Lifter Problem!!
Pull the oil filter, cut it open and look for metal. If there is none you got very lucky, but I bet there is damage to the cam,if the lifter was going up and down sideways, even without spring pressure. That will show up before long,if it is damaged.Did you try to look or feel the cam lobe when you replaced the lifter, and was there damage to the Comp lifter?
Re: Lifter Problem!!
There wasn't any damage to the lifter that I could see. I am going to pull the filter and check it. I didn't look down into the hole at the cam, I really wish I would have though.
Re: Lifter Problem!!
I just drove the car. It seems fine. I think the lifter came out because I was racing a friend and went hard from 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th and over reved it.
