leaking valve covers

when we put the motor together, the cam we bought has 539 lift on the intake and 550 on the exhaust.

once we put everything together, the rockers were hitting the [stock] valve covers, so we kindda banged them to give the rockers more moving space.

ever since then, the valve covers have been leaking. the leak is small, so you cant really see it, especially since it drips onto to headers and that burns it up.

it's using about 1quart of oil every 600-800 miles.

we ordered some gmpp stainless steel valve covers, so hopefully that'll take care of the leak...

has anyone had this leaking valve cover problem? has there been a robbing of power? input is always appreciated.

Don't think you'll lose power, but mine are also leaking a little bit after the cam install. The leak is through the bolt holes, right? That's where mine is and I have a .569"/.577 lift cam.

PS. Just read about 1 QT every 600 miles.
I've driven it 400 miles and the oil level is the same. Maybe you have another leak somewhere?

when the car's not running, there's no oil leak.

the valve covers arent leaking through the bolt holes, they're leaking from around the valve covers...
