Leaking coolant after cam. Water pump bolts??
Leaking coolant after cam. Water pump bolts??
Hey guys,
I haven't had a chance to investigate it yet.. I cranked her up after my cam install tonight, and I thought I saw some coolant dribbling around one of the bolts. I'm not sure if it could have been leaking out of the bleeder screw? Is that even possible or is that just air only?
Anyway. I haven't investigated it, and of course coolant was flung all over the place, so I don't know the origination point.
Should I have used thread sealant on the WP bolts??? I didn't
Thanks,
Michael

I'm wondering this too. I just put my wp back on tonight. No thread sealant was used the last time by the mechanic, but there was freakin RTV everywhere. He loaded the gaskets up with it, which I didn't. Bad?
Thanks. I will check everything next time I build up enough energy to "f" with it again, heh. I'm so ecstatic that IT RUNS!!!! I hadn't heard the fire of a high compression V8 in my garage since MARCH when I first put the car up on ramps. Hasn't moved since!!!!
Next step, I'm going to back it out, drive it down the street a couple times, bring it back... CLEAN MY GARAGE FLOOR... OMG, it's filthy from all the crap falling off my engine (+ cat litter to absorb, + spider webs, + dead bugs).....
If I have to pull the water pump, WHAT ALL has to come BACK off?! I feel like this is the longest cam install in recorded history, heh. I'm probably gonna change the oil pretty much after letting it go through one or two cycles too. I know the oil will end up being filthy.... I had the valve covers off for most of 6 months too. (yes, it's in a garage).

So basically, if you get the bolts torqued down good enough, you may get away without using thread sealant?? It's no biggie for me since I just put everything back on and can very easily get the bolts off and put the sealant on, but for the other guy who already filled the coolant, that would suck.
