LE3 LT4 or AFR 195's w/XFI 236/242

I was dead set on AFR's for quite some time, but the more I read and after talking to Lloyd through email, I'm begginning to think I should go with the LE3 setup, only I'll be using some GM LT4 castings w/ an Edelbrock LT4 intake and have Lloyd do the intake as well. What do you guys think? For the money & power which one. And if I did do the LE3, what kind of power could I expect out of it through an automatic w/ 3600 vig. stall and at 2,000 ft. above sea level?

I agree with this question. Why not just get a custom cam? While the XFI cam may be a decent off-the-shelf cam for your setup, you will get a lot better results with a custom that's made for your setup.

n/a and stock or 355 cubes go with the ported stockers. any power adder and use the afr they have a better deck and more room if you get the larger ones to support the cubes. you cant get the compression out of the afr's on a stock cube motor without a bit of brain damage.

I'm keeping the 355 cui, and will probably spray a 150 shot since it's already on there, but my current setup just isn't making the power I thought it would.

I agree with SS MPSTR (and the earth didn't stop rotating )

If you go with Lloyd's heads, you might also consider his matching cam(s).

If you go with AFR's heads, go with their recommendation.

I think you guys are missing what I'm asking. Which would be a better set up for my 355?

LE3 port job on LT4 heads & intake w/LE3 cam

or

AFR's w/the recommended XFI cam that the guy at AFR recommended.

Of course Lloyd is going to try to get you to buy the LE package. It might be a great package, but you might want to check out other porters as well. I know advanced induction does great work as well. I would advise against the AFR heads unless you're going to forced induction.

No, I don't think most of us are missing what you are asking.

You are asking the eternal LT1 question. There are folks in both camps who will tell you to go "their" way. It is a tough decision.

I'm not sure if you should limit youself to LE and AFR. If you search you'll find others who offer H/C packages. That makes the choice more difficult of course.

There have been numerous threads on this particular subject. If you have a week or so, go back and read some of them. Put your BS filter on stun and try to sort out factual information like torque and power curves, track performance if that is one of your criteria, drivability if that is important, total costs with all the associated bits you need to make a H/C package work, along with customer service, etc.

I know what I would do, but I'm not entirely non-prejudiced. You need to decide for yourself.

Oh yeah, don't take a poll. Ask people who have actually done a H/C package for their thoughts both positive and negative.

Good luck.

How about a bare set of the AFR'S and get them ported and set up by the person who is porting them. The plus side you get more flow. The drawback is it will cost a little more. Who said power was cheap.
In my mind it will be well worth it!

This what I have
383 stroker(SBC gen 1 ) not LT1 like you have
converted LT1 intake
afr 195's
xfi cam 236/241. Hydraulic flat tappet
1 5/8 headers
48 mm throttle body

I went 12.3 with a 3650lb car(me in it)
I went 11.5 with a 50hp shot of n2o
There is alot more to go on my combo. I need a 58 mm throttle body, 1 3/4 headers and a roller cam. These would yield me 3-4 tenths atleast.
