Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
Ok so today pretty much SUCKED for racing, heres a run down of the weather at the track.
BAR: 29.25
Temp: 91.5
Hum: 97-99%
w/ 3-8mph headwind
Heres a run down of my car
LE3 heads, Le2.2 Cam, 1.6 pro mags, Headman LT's, 3" duals,
stock TB and injectors
MadZ28 tune
T56 3.42's street tires.
3600-3800lb with me in it
Heres my times
----------Run 1---Run 2---Run 3
60' ------2.190---2.243---2.494
1/8 time--8.64----8.61----8.80
1/8 MPH--86.73---87.23---88.26
1/4 time-13.126--13.082--13.300
1/4 MPH-109.75--110.16--109.76
I was really really hoping to be in the 12's
O well I gues I need some DR's and some decent weather. Anyone know just how much was left on the table due to weather and street tires? are 12.5's possible? oh and reaction times were .613, .493, and .259 respectively.

Re: Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
something aint right -you should be running faster times-
your 60's arent great- but with the 2.19 your only running a 13.1 at 109-
to give you an idea i was running a 13.2 at 109 with a 2.6 60' with just my 230/236 , and boltons - stock gears- stock heads
after cutting my 60' to a 1.8 and and going to 4.10's im pulling a 12.3 -
*edit- just saw humidity and temps- ha - i think thats hurting quite a bit

Ya I was literally dripping at some points, after the run I would take my helmet off and sweat would poor down my face. but the 3-5mph wind helped and wasnt to bad if you were in the shade. I didnt realize I was out in the sun for so long, I got home and my face is a nice crimson red

Find out the altitude of the track and the dew point and throw them into this calculator to get the density altitude and let us know.

Well for starters those 60' are REALLY bad. If you were to get down into the 1.9/1.8 you would have a definate mid 12. Next thing is the weather. With conditions like that you really shouldn't even bother going or at least never hope for a new best. Heat and humidity like that will absolutely kill your power.
Re: Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
Those stock injectors are not going to feed that thing properly at higher rpms. My AFR is a tad rich but not exessivly so and the AI midlevel offering with a mild cam(503ish) is pretty well maxing out the injectors Duty Cycles, routinely high 90s it is best to keep them below 85%.

Re: Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
No never had it on a dyno, I just got it back together 3-4 months ago. I know everyone says go bigger injectors but this thing puls like crazy to 6500. if the injectors were going static wouldnt I notice a "bog" or some sort of "buck"??
I entered the info into that calculator, is the altimeter setting the barimetic pressure divided by 1.01? if so I used 28.96
Desity Alitude --- 4229ft
Absolute Press -- 28.33in
Relitive Density is 88.2%
now whos gonna tell me what those number mean??
Also whats the best 60' anyone has gotten WITh street tires?

Re: Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
ya I plan on getting some SVO 30#er's but havent got around to it, the car runs so good right now its hard to get motivated to work on it, even if it is only a 20min job. but anywayz, when I had Ion tune it I told him to tune it for 30# injectors so I will be getting them.
Re: Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
The main thing I saw here was your trap (with ET, a lot of other factors can play in). Your trap speed is an indicator of the HP the car is putting down. Even with a terrible 60, your mph looks a little low. Most head/cam cars put down in the 116-119 range on average with some stuff doing even better ( the LE stuff is track proven to perform well). You should put the car on some sticky tires, and then see how you do, but I really don't know that you will pick up 7-8 mph doing so. A lot of it is in the driving too, so you have to drive it like you hate it.
Re: Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
lol, ill remeber that next time. I thought the trap was a little low, Im not going back untill I have a new TB and injectors. at least then I can compare those times to these. maybe I am starving it for fuel?! I need to get a scan tool on it.
Re: Le3/Le2 H/C track times, Do I have a problem??
I took my car out for a little datalogging today before a long trip to race tomorrow. Had 1/4 tank of fuel when it shifted to third it pulled but not as hard as it should have a glance at the laptop showed the O2 values were below 100 when they should have been closer to 900. Since you have never driven your car well dialed in as I have mine you just don't know what you are missing uptop. I stopped and got gas and that was all I needed though the injector DC was 97%, I am getting the parts to fix that tomorrow. When I gassed up I put a shade over 18 gallons in a 23 gallon tank, the baffling in the GM tanks SUCKS make sure you run(when pushing it hard) with at least 3/8 of a tank of fuel. I don't know if the f-body tank is as bad as the b-body but knowing GM it can't be much better. The extra 20lbs of fuel is more than worth it to ensure proper fueling.
