How long before it stops running. I havent put the tranny back in cuz im waiting on a clutch but I'm wondering should I drive it 30 miles home after its put together. Also about how many starts before it wont start. (If I wont) couldnt I just unplug the battery the reset the computer?

Are you talking about breaking in a new engine?

Im saying my 383 has just been installed and I'd like some help with what I asked. I have to hold the gas to keep it on. So I'm wondering should I drive it home?

Talking

This one is not easy.
My guess :
It will stop running at 147,xxx miles.
It will start 3,563 times before it will not start anymore.

I meant before I get it tuned. Is it ok to drive without a tune, 11.6:1 compression on 91 octane. How long will it run before it wont start anymore?

i think it greatly depends on how many times he goes to the track, and based on the internals

Im gonna go with 123,456 miles, and it will not start the 4278th time

we should start a poll on this

no, it is not safe to run it withouta tune. My guess would be it would run 10-15 minutes before something screwed up from a lack of a tune, and then youd be paying to get something else too. Spend the $150 and get ahold of madz28.com

There is no reason to run without a tune. If you are in a hurry, don't do mail order, find somebody local, preferably the shop you will use for dyno tuning later.

I brought my PCM to a local shop (Vector Motorsports) and the base tune was ready the next day for $50 bucks, which counts as a down payment on my pending dyno tune. Cheap, simple, and fast.
