LE1/LE2 Heads only?
LE1/LE2 Heads only?
I have a blown head gasket on my Camaro and while i have the heads off the car im going to install headers (Mac Mids) and was also thinking of replacing the heads with LE1 heads or LE2 heads but keeping the stock cam. Has this ever been done before and would i be able to run this setup with stock injectors? (Will get mail order tune as well)
Why would you want to do that is my question? I'm pretty sure it would work, but you wouldn't be putting the heads anywhere near their full potential.
I'm almost positive you would need new injectors though.

Coolbeans! Im on a budget so i can't go too crazy with it, thats why im thinking of running heads only so i don't have to worry about injectors maxing out. The 2 setups that im thinking of so far are LE2 heads/headers only, or the hotcam kit stock heads and headers.
Folks used to talk about this back in the day to have maximum driveability with good power. I'd say cam and headers before heads only, but it's just my opinion. It never hurts to call Lloyd Elliot himself and see what he thinks.

Its kind of *** backwords compared to what everyone else does, like me, but in your situation I'd do it. But I would throw some longtubes in there instead of mids, once again learn from my experience
yep, a mild cam will get a more noticable gain at every RPM where as the "heads and stock cam" set up will only produce a gradual increase through out until high RPM.
Even if both set ups get you a 30 HP increase over stock at 6000 RPM, the mild cam and stock heads would show alot more gain at 2000, 3000 RPM and more gain at 4000 and 5000 RPM compared to the ported heads and stock cam.
If you ahve blown head gaskets and are having to pull the heads anyway, it makes sense to do the heads now but I would scrap up a lil more $$$ and get a mild cam (used Hot Cam, Crane 227, etc) and throw in there or a new cam if you have the $$$.

I say **** it - the heads are coming off anyways. Put them on now. So what if its not ideal? Or that you would make more power with a cam than with a head swap...
Do the heads now while they need taken off. It will make life easier when you want to put a cam in later. If it was me, I would do it that way given the same situation...
