Re: LE1 heads/cam+install

Do you have all the valvetrain stuff (rockers, lifters, pushrods, etc?). If so you should just need stuff like gaskets. I've seen prices for installs from like $600 to $1000. Thats not including a tune. If I missed anything someone else can chime in, I just woke up, so I might be missing something...

Re: LE1 heads/cam+install

I put the LE1 combo on last summer. I asked Lloyd what else I'd need. He said roller rockers for one thing. They're probably not absolutely necessary, but are a good idea, as are new lifters. I had little idea what I was doing at the time. Call Combination Motorsports and ask what you'll need. Fortunately they cater to people who don't really know what they're doing. You'll need a lot of new gaskets which they sell as a set, you also may want hardened pushrods which you can get cheap for about $30. Just ask Lloyd and call Comb M. A professional could do it in a lot less time, but it took me over 80 hours to do the entire job so I expect the shop will charge a lot if you hire out the work.

Re: LE1 heads/cam+install

no way you can buy all the neccessary parts and have a shop install for 2k unless they owe you some huge favors-

luckily i have a mechanic friend who just got a new engine stand and has over 15k in brandnew snap-on tools who asked if he could do the work with me

good rule of thumb is have an extra 500-1000 laying around for misc expenses- stuff adds up quick and once you tear in you'll prob find all sorts of stuff you should do-

Re: LE1 heads/cam+install

No, you'll pay two grand for the heads-cam and parts alone. That's what I spent, give or take a hundred as I remember. You could reduce that by probably $500 though if you don't get roller rockers or lifters. But I really wouldn't skip the lifters. The rockers would be incredibly easy to install later when you have the money so that would be an option.

Re: LE1 heads/cam+install

well if i had a garage i would actually give it a shot and try to install it myself, but i have no were to work on my car so doin it myself is out of question. i guess i might take the 2 grand and buy all the parts i need, then see if i can get my parents to help me out with the install as a graduation present i just want to have heads/cam/spray by june, thats my goal.

Re: LE1 heads/cam+install

You might want to add some bigger injectors and a new timing chain to your list also.

Re: LE1 heads/cam+install

while your at it- rather than re-charge AC- just get rid of it- free up some weight on the front end and make any future work on your car sooo much easier

Does anyone already have the LE1 package already installed? What Hp and torque gains did you get?

Re: LE1 heads/cam+install

Lloyd Elliot 1 typically put down from 370-390 rwhp. But this is with supporting mods, Longtubes, no cats, 52mm TB, good tuning, 30lbs injectors, CAI, catback, etc.

My A/C would be gone if I didnt have a g/f.
