LE cam and head dyno results

Just installed my LE2 cam and Lloyd Elliot heads..

LT1 stock block
CC double roller timing chain
Lloyd Elliot ported heads and LE2 cam
thunderracing hardened pushrods
CC pro-mag 1.6 NSA rockers
GM guideplates
7/16 studs
CC R lifters
CC 987 springs
Rev Valves 2.0, 1.56
SVO 30lb injectors
Meziere waterpump
ATI superdamper
Walbro 255lph in tank
holley 52tb

the side that needs attention:
edelbrock headers
high flow cat
borla catback

After the install, well, it ran like hell, loud, bumpy and surged like crazy.. soooo after some quick calls I ended up at Carolina Auto Masters for the afternoon..

First thing I them him do was check to make sure my valvetrain was making all the right noises.. turns out 1/16th of a turn past zero lash was the magic number for me and comp R lifters.. the valvetrain is noisier but sounds like a well oiled sewing machine..no relash hell thankfully..

my mail order tune needed to be wiped clean, and the tps also got tweaked to read the correct voltage..

Jeff was very helpful and after seven or more pulls (lost count) and 5 tunes later the car pulled a best of 372.6 hp and 360.8 tq.. tq is over 300 from the beginning of the pull at 2200 to 6200 rpm..

With the borla bottled up tight it was 364.6 hp and 355.1 tq..

Hp peak was right at 6000rpm every time and tq peaked at about 4500rpm.. runs were very consistent..

What is even better is the idle is choppy but the car doesn't shake at all, it just seems stock except for the sound and the cam surge is still there but barely at 1800-2000 rpm..

There is more in the car, this was running with a cat still in place (not for long) and edelbrock shorties (will be replaced with something bigger) so it was obviously hobbled by the pipes.. the numbers will get higher but I am very pleased with the solid repeatable performance obtained today, in keeping with the goal of the car, a solid performer that will turn, stop, and go equally well..

Sounds like your very happy with your combo, congrats!
Ditch the cat and shorties and add some long tubes and you should pick up another 10-15 hp.
Do you have any flow numbers for your heads and what size cam is that LE2 cam anyway?

Thanks

the LE2 is a cam secret.. the duration is in the 230s to 240s.

the flow numbers are

.1 64/49
.2 134/105
.3 188/147
.4 232/168
.5 262/181
.6 269.8/187.8

not the best he has done but not shabby..

I am taking down the link, if someone wants to host the dyno graph let me know I will email it to you..

I am pretty happy, obviously the headers are choking it but the curves are all pretty, bigger headers will come later but keeping the future wife happy is coming first..

Your numbers seem kind of low. What is the rest of your drive line like? I have been thinking about this cam but you don't seem to be putting down much more power than a well tuned hot cam. Any thoughts?

my thoughts are I am running a edelbrock TES header with a 2.5in y pipe and small diameter primary pipes.. plus a cat..

when I took them off I was not too happy to put them back on, they have an almost 1/2 inch reduction in diameter from the exhaust ports right after the flange..

I expected with this on the front it would dyno in the 370-375 range, right on target..

with long tubes, gutted cat, it would be at 400 or over..

considering people with long tubes are making 375 avg with the 230/236 I consider my numbers to be just fine..

stock stangs with loud exhaust were my favorite tasty treat before the mods.. probably still will be..

everyone who has a catback revs on a turdgen..

it is pretty stealth now, the RA2 hood is gone and replaced with a cowl stocker..

the only thing I am not sure on is headers, I know I need somthing better, but not sure I want to go longtube.. maybe slp 1 3/4 heads..

I have slp 1 3/4" headers on my Iroc. I like them. Just make sure you spend the time grinding out the ports to match the heads.

im goingt with the same setup but my valves will be 2.05 and 1.56 but that cam should peak at 6500 not 6000. i know there are guys in dallas that are hitting 423 rwhp in the exact same setup. a a4 but the had longtubes.

im not knocking your numbers i just think theres more there. keep us posted.

Yeah I don't like those numbers at all considering I hit over 400rwhp with LE heads & the 847, now I have the LE3 cam, I hope it makes more then my majic 847 did.

there is more, definitely, but I have certainly maxed out on the headers that are there now..

I may never fully realize the cam and heads potential simply because I may not go long tube, I am thinking the 1 3/4 slp shorties.. but the real question for me now is headers or gears??

Yep I knew the headers would choke it but time and money decided for me.. just didn't realize how much..

New headers are certainly on the list for me!
