L/T install question

I got the headers in and the passenger side was a PITA WOW. I can't get the passenger side dipstick in all the way??

I have a knocking that I think could possibly be my y-pipe on the other hand i was looking at it and it looks like the passenger side header is setting on the k member? Does anyone else have this problem or not?

sometimes getting the dipstick back in requires some TLC. Take it out and try a few more times. Dont do it with the oil check part in too. I kind of shimmied it it by twisting it as it went in and got it close enough to get the dipstick bolt to thread and then started tightening the bolt. Once i tightened it, it pushed it in all the way.

What kind of headers are these?

Ok, I'll try and work at it some more...

They are jet hot

Also I can't find my bolt to go hold the dipstick in what type of bolt or where can I find one to go in it. Other than going to a junk yard and pulling one out of a junk car??..??..

It is a tiny bolt. I think it is a 10mm head, but thats just a guess. I would make sure and get that dipstick secured.

Putting the dipstick tube back is a real PITA.
I had to trim down approx. 1" of the tube end and sanded it down, so it can slide in much easier now.
I had lost the retaining bolt, too It's a 3/8" bolt, so don't get a 10mm wrench or socket on it because you will round the heads off.
I have ordered the bolt through Dal, it comes only in 10pc package (I can get the part number later if you need it).

But if you are going OTVC wires you can just simply unbolt the same bolt from the drivers side wire bracket (the one that holds the #7 wire) and be done

Oh, yeah, and I had to bend the dipstick tube away from the primary, no major bending tough.

Hope that helps

Ok let me know what the part number is that would be good. I'm not using the OVC on my car. I am under the headers far enough so the wires arn't touching the headers.

I sanded a little on the part of the tube that goes in the block to get some of the paint off and it went right in. It took me a while to square that issue away though.

I wouldnt cut the tube, just keep working it. It is not easy, but it will go in. I sprayed a little WD-40 near the top (the last inch or two that goes in the block) and twisted back and forth as I pushed it in.

As far as the bolt, just try your local dealer. If they dont stock it maybe they can tell you the exact size and you can pick one up at the hardware store.

I know its too late now but that is one of those deals where you put the bolt back in the hole it came out of so it don,t get lost.
As for cutting the dipstick tube, I did it and never had a problem.

I couldn't get mine in all the way. I pulled mine out then put it back in like 3 times. The best I could get it was the part that stops into the block to be about 1/16th " above the whole. My bolt wouldn't go in the its hole either, so I zip tied it to an AC line so it doesn't bounce around. So far no oil leaking/splashing out of the hole. I didn't try sanding/freezing it either though.

If the dipstick tube isnt in all the way then your oil will read lower than it is.

If your headers are banging the k member then you should probably check your motor mounts to see if one of them is ragged out.

So you think my motor mounts could be shot? I am going ot put it on the lift tomorrow and take a look at it and try to square it away. If the motor mounts are shot what will they look like or what are the signs to look for?

I know, but I just did an oil change before my header install. In the next week or two I am going to pull it out, sand it, try again, and if that doesn't work, I will buy another one.
