Kooks or Jet-hot?

Hello
I'm really hung up on what brand to go with. The Kooks are stainless steel, but can someone tell me how the engine bay temps are with the kooks? Jet-hot seems like a great deal, the car is mostly a daily driver, does any one know how they will hold up in MN weather (all seasons). I know kooks has a catted y pipe, does jet-hot have any y-pipe products. One more question, if i chose to run no cats through the borla, would the car be crazy loud, or reasonable?
Sorry about all the questions.
Thanks for any replies.

Kooks headers can be coated to help w/ heat. If you run long tubes, no cat(s) and the Borla you will likely get a raspy sound.

Re: Kooks or Jet-hot?

I put my Jet-hot's on in 6/04 I believe. I drove the car for 1 winter, but it sat for most of the time since I was at school. I am now in the process of removing them to send back to Jet-Hot since they have rusted through at the collectors. Stainless won't have that issue, so I would lean toward the Kook's.

Kooks are the best headers they are alittle pricey but they are awesome i just got some and i live in Wisconsin. I dont drive it in the winter but they are stainless and they wont rust. By far the best quality headers i have ever seen i think http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/ has a deal on them free shipping and 10% off. If i read right check it out.

We're comparing $400 coated Jet-Hots to $800 Kooks, right?

What if i was to weld in one or two bullet mufflers in place of the cats? Would this smooth out the tone, and not compromise any power?

I used a Borla XR-1 muffler and it did the trick. The muffler is not restrictive in any way and didn't hurt the power at all. It is a full 3" inside and you can see straight through. Denny from Mufflex did some testing at the track and lost nothing by adding an XR-1....good enough for me.

Re: Kooks or Jet-hot?

I dont know how you can really compare the 2. The only deciding factor should be the price... either you have the money for Kooks or you dont. At that point you settle for another set such as Hooker, Pacesetter or Jet-hot.

I believe Jet-Hot's are more around $530 or so.
(Just bein a smart-a**)

I agree that it really depends on what you have/want to spend. I am on a budget myself, but am personally leaning towards the Kooks not only for the durability, but also for the stepped version (1 3/4 to 1 7/8) for possible engine upgrade down the road.

Kooks seem like they are worth it for the money. I know they are durable, but does anyone know how the engine bay temps are with them uncoated?

Re: Kooks or Jet-hot?

If you have the cash, get the Kooks. If you're really worried about the engine bay temps, then have them coated. I didn't bother to coat mine as I like the natural stainless look. Nothing has melted under my hood yet.
