Knock retard...Real or not how to tell.

I was reading 5* of knock retard in wot. I was wondering how i would be able to tell if it was real or fasle knock. I wanna install my lt4 knock module but i don't wanna just install it to hide real knock. Also what would cause real knock. I run 91 octane gas which is the highest it goes over here.

2 things to try without buying parts. One is, see if higher octane fuel does anything. If you can't find racing fuel like we have here than consider adding octane booster. Remember not to dilute it with too much low octane fuel. The other thing to try is disconnect the knock sensor and see if the knock retard goes away. Just don't do it for a long time.

If you want to, monitor the knock signal with the car on but not running. Wrap on the block with the handle of a screw driver and see if the knock sensor detects it while it is plugged in. I can't remember if you have to monitor the signal directly with a volt meter or if the PCM will see it with car not running.

I hope this helps.
