keyless entry

does anyone know how to tell if your car had keyless entry on it? i was told by the dealer that the car did originally have keyless entry on it, but something had happened to the remote or some crap like that and he couldn't get a new one.

when i lock the doors with the power locks, and shut the door... the lights flash real quick and from there, it has the factory alarm which isn't all that great. to keep it from going off, you have to unlock the door and put the key in the ignition quickly. so i have assumed that it actually is true that it did have keyless entry and now i just need to figure that out for sure so i can decide whether or not to buy a new remote.

can anybody help me? and where do i buy a new one at? are they hard to reprogram?

What car and year?

Look for code AU0 on the RPO sticker. If it is present, it came with keyless entry. Get a remote and follow the programming procedures in the owner's manual.

GM PART # 16245100 works on 1996-2002s and should be what you need. Scroll down when you get here for programming instructions.

There is a link on my Tech Page where you can view or download an electronic version of the owner's manual in .pdf form.

There are several places with RPO code info, but the one I used was www.theformulasource.com when I first got my car.

It doesn't have ALL of them, but many of them are there...

I believe you can find instructions for reprogramming the factory remotes on Brent Franker's site. I don't know the address or I'd link it here, but I believe his username here is Brent94Z, you can look at his profile and get to his site from there.

The dealership can run your VIN number and tell you which remote you need.. Mine doesn't have the alarm, so I got away with the $25 remotes..

I also got lucky and the dealership programmed them for me for free since it only took them like 1 minute to do. I didn't know about CZ28.com or any of the HUGE amounts of information about these cars when I first got mine and got the transmitters.

EDIT: It appears that I was wrong and it's shoebox with the info you need... Shoebox always seems to have the part numbers, wiring diagrams and general electical advice you need on these cars...

I got my replacement remote thru ebay. IT was still brand new and the person that sold it to me was kind enough to give the instructions too. If you can find your part number the remote give it a shot. I've bought 2 remotes so far and no troubles at all.

I have a 1996 Trans Am that I purchased new remotes for because I had a similar issue. I bought the car as a salvage unit and fixed it up. I found a pair of like new remotes on EBAY for $35. There are three peices of information on the back of the remote. The main peice of information you are looking for is the Model/FCCID: ABO1502T. If you do a search for ABO1502T on Ebay you will see a couple of used remotes listed as of today. It is not I that have those remotes for sale it is just an example of what to look for. The other two numbers on the remote are a GM part number which is 16245100-xx and a Canada part number which is 218101368. I also have a hard copy of the instructions to program the remotes for your car. I don't have those handy at the moment but I will look that up tonight and post a link on this thread. By the way there are a number of places to get the remotes, just do a general search on the internet for ABO1502T and you will come up with some hits.
